DECIMALS

Operation Problem Answer Explanation
Addition .25 + 1.3 = 1.55 Line the decimals and add the digits. Remember to move the decimal down when you are adding.
Subtraction 5.25 - 1.9 = 3.35 Line the decimals and subtract the digits. Remember to move the decimal down when you are subtracting.
Multiplication 1.25 x .2 = 0.35 You do not need to line the decimals up. However, you have to Count the decimals in both numbers, Add the decimals, Multiply the numbers and Put the decimal back starting from the right side. The capitalized words spell CAMP which is an easy way to remember each step of multiplying decimals.
Division 1.25 .5 = 25 You need to move the decimal in the divisor (the second number or the number outside the division sign) to make it a whole number. Then you move the decimal in the dividend ( the other number) the same amount of places to the right. Divide and don't forget to move the decimal up from the dividend into the quotient or the answer.
