The Bird

It is by my will that this bird lives.  I provide her food and fresh water.  Without me she would starve.  Without me she would die a horrible, agonizing death.

I'm also the one that cleans up the bird's messes.  It is not for me that I do this.  It is for the bird's comfort.

Yet she hasn't learned that I'm the one she counts on.  She still has not learned to trust me.

There is a big world beyond her little cage.  There are countless adventures awaiting and numerous things unseen.  She only feels safe in the confines of her small cage.

Oh, but if she would trust me....  I would be able to open that door and allow her to soar.  But because of her distrust, she imprisons herself to just a tiny fraction of what I have to offer.

So it is with my relationship to God.  He wants me to trust, but I can only see just beyond my own tiny cage.  The rest of the world seems so big and overwhelming.  I don't want to leave my comfort zone.  I want to stay perched were I feel secure.

It is time that this bird learns that only through trusting me can she ever experience the taste of freedom.  It is time for me to live showing the world the freedom I have only through trusting Him.

Isaiah 40:30-32
Even youths will become exhausted, and young men will give up. But those who wait on the LORD will find new strength. They will fly high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
