I had seen Tommy around town a few times.  We both ran in the same circle of friends, but had never been introduced.  I thought he was so cute.  I really wanted to get to know him, but when I'd ask about him our mutual friend about him, he would discourage me telling me that he was recently divorced and I just wouldn't be interested.

One night though we both stopped in town to talk to our friend.  After a little while our friend had to leave, but we stayed.  For four hours Tommy stood by my truck petting my dog.  He hardly said a word.  The next day I called our friend and told him, "He either has no life, really likes dogs, or he has a thing for me."  It turned out to be a combination of the three but more of the latter.  We met again that next night and since then we've been inseparable.

In October that year Tommy asked me to marry him.  We never could settle on a date so one day in November I said, "Let's just go do it."  I called in to work and Tommy and I went that morning to the court house.  When we got there I'd forgotten my driver's license.  I drove Tommy on to work and went to pay some bills.  It was agreed that I'd pick him up at lunch WITH my driver's license, and we'd go back.  When I picked him up at lunch and we got to the courthouse, his ring was gone.  It had been in the truck that morning, but now it wasn't.  We got into a horrible argument.  He thought I didn't want to marry him.  I thought he didn't want to marry me.  I took him back to work still a single woman!!

After dropping him off I tried to retrace my steps to figure out where I could have lost it at.  I'd stopped several places all over town that morning.  I was about to give up, but I stopped at a gas station I'd been at earlier to get something to drink.  When I got out of the truck, I saw the gift paper that his ring box had been wrapped in.  I was disappointed.  Someone had obviously gotten the ring and thrown the paper on the ground.  I walked over to pick it up and throw away.  When I picked it up there was the ring!  The box had been ran over and completely crushed, but the ring was still in it and unscratched!!!

That weekend we did a lot of talking.  We realized how silly we'd both acted and how very in love we were.  We still wanted to get married, but still didn't set a date.

The following Monday I went to work and a lady asked when I was getting married.  I said, "Who knows?  Could be today!"  Then I ran to the phone, called a local deli and ordered lunch.  I called Tommy and asked him to go pick it up, and then come get me.  We ate on our way to the courthouse, ran in, said our "I do's," and then went and looked at a car.  I was back to work in 25 minutes.

It's not the fairy-tale wedding that all little girls dream of, but Tommy is all of my dreams come true!  We saved a lot of money, accomplished the primary purpose, and have the greatest marriage of any couple I've ever known.  Who could ask for more than that??
