To the New Mexico Equestrian Special Olympics Community - After much thought, I feel this may be the best way to communicate throughout the year concerning the equestrian events. When I refer to term 'community', the following will be in my communication loop: coaches, parents, athletes,Chris, Clovis/Portales volunteers, show event managers, and my posse. Since I don't know all of you, as you receive information check with others to see if the know about this site and if they have emailed me to get onto my communication list.
As I receive questions I will enter them in the website and put a respond date on them for comment. I will enter the comments and we can then figure out what will work.
Actual communication will take place by email and when we arrive at decisions, that information will be entered into this website for all to view at their leisure. You should be able to copy off what you wish to keep as hard copy.
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO OBTAIN A COPY OF THE SO EQUESTRIAN RULES. I HAVE GONE TO THE PARENT SITE AND CURRENT RULES ARE UP. THEY WILL APPEAR IN ADOBE READER AND YOU CAN PRINT FROM THAT. THE REVISIONS POSTED AS OF JANUARY 31, 2008 DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT AFFECT THE EQUESTRIAN RULES. All the rules I have worked with to this point precede the ones on the web. The good news is we are not too far off.
The first information will be from the letter I sent to Albuquerque after the 2007 show. It recaps the post show meeting and issues/solutions we identified. Please review and begin thinking about what is needed for 2008.
I am entering the information according to the notes I made as to resolved or open. Blue text means I have it as an item we need to work on and black means I think it is resolved. Also, I have had only one post survey returned so some of the comments in that will appear below - good observations and comments.

COMMUNICATION Better. Questions were answered but not everyone had the same answer. All we can do is work on this and set up a reference of people in the paddock to go to with specific questions. I don't think any one of us will have all the answers. If I can have feedback on the kind of question that had more than one answer it will help in resolving the problem.
COACHES MEETINGS The preshow coaches meeting was well attended but we had so much hand out information that we ran too long. We should be able to resolve that problem with this web site and email contact throughout the year. I can email anything to participants as an attachment prior to the show and you can bring it with you to the meeting. I will need current email addresses in order to accomplish this. To email me, use the address on the home page.
The postshow meeting was attended by anyone who wanted to come. As far as I am concerned, the preshow meeting needs to be just that, preshow informational. It's not just coaches that have questions.
Information that can be gathered and sent to you before: names and cell phone numbers for use on the grounds resources - people and other staff names and where they will be located order of classes
SHORTAGE OF HORSES Some changes have occured in our location and we hope that won't be a problem this year. One thing that will help is for out of town participants to email me as to the need for horse or horses as we get closer to competition. I plan to bring some from my school if needed along with a person who knows the horse to handle it.
SPLITTING CLASSES We're checking on the rules and regs concerning this issue. I did notice that National rules do have a maximum number that can be in each class.
ATHLETE MODIFICATIONS Waiting to address these at the gate slows everything down. At the post meeting it was decided that anyone needing to address modifications can arrange to meet between 8:00 - 8:30 with the judge, ring steward, Bonnie and me under the stands. We will review the request, make a decision and, if allowed, will enter the information on the judge's sheets. NO MODIFICATIONS WILL BE ALLOWED AFTER 8:30 FRIDAY September 12, 2008. Look at the parent rules regarding this.
I found that some situations you felt were modifications had already been addressed in our modified rules so it applied to everyone. Send your questions now and it may be something that falls within the rules. I can research it for you then post the question and answer in here.
ATHLETE REST AREA Identified was a need for athletes to be out of the sun and resting for their next event due to their physical condition. The solution is for local volunteers to visit with businesses to see if we can get one or two RVs on the grounds. The only people allowed in will be those who have documented the need for this accommodation prior to the event. Passes will be issued to those who qualify. They will be close enough and in cell phone communication for classes.
