Blissful Births & Babies
As I slowly make my way in the world of pregnant bellies, births and babies, I have found that many people are curious to know why I am so interested in childbirth.

For as far as I can remember, I always wanted to work around newborn babies. I was fascinated by the magic of pregnancy and birth and after many years of working with the sole focus of making a viable living, I have decided that my life would not be complete if I was not in love with what I was doing on a daily basis.

I started reading all the books I could find on pregnancy, childbirth and babies, and in March 2001 I attended the
Midwife Assistant Workshop Level I at the Farm in Tennessee. There, along with a small group of aspiring midwives, I totally immersed myself in this new world and I knew that I could make a difference in the lives of many women. Indeed, I always found it intriguing to see how medicalized the birthing process has become. So many of my friends found the experience frustrating and impersonal, and they hated to feel that they had to give up full control of their bodies and of their babies to a person they barely knew. Deep inside, they wanted to be told that their body could be trusted, that their wishes would be respected and that ultimately, the future parents would be given all the necessary knowledge to make an informed decision and to choose how they would bring their child into this world.

That is why I decided to become a doula. I believe that every single birth has the potential to be beautiful and empowering. My goal is to help future parents understand the beauty of having and delivering a baby, to be knowledgeable about the different stages of birth, and to have the tools to remain in control and to make informed decisions if and when necessary.

In 2001, I attended a DONA Doula Training Workshop in Raleigh along with a Breastfeeding Promotion class offered by the Triangle Birth Network located in Durham.

In October 2001, I attended and volunteered as a translator at the Midwifery Today Conference in Paris.  I had the opportunity to meet many prominent international speakers such as Michel Odent, Ina May Gaskin, Sara Wickham, Naoli Vinaver, and Jan Tritten.

In October 2002, I attended Janice Clarfield's Pregnancy Yoga Teacher Training at the
Kripalu Center in Lenox, Massachusetts. I will start teaching prenatal yoga in the upcoming weeks in the area of Providence, Rhode Island. Please check back for more information.
