Turning A New Page For Students
Seeking Textbook Alternatives At Minnesota State University, Mankato
Students4Students is a student group seeking to decrease the corporate influence on campus, specifically the corporate hold on textbooks. Textbook costs have increased at a rate significantly higher than inflation, and so has the cost of other expenses associated with college education. At the same time, a college education has become increasingly important to future success, which leads to the growing problem of education being necessary, but unaffordable.
Something needs to be done!
Our goal is to make textbook alternatives available to students.
Ways this can be accomplished:
Provide a forum for students to buy, sell, or swap their books with other MSU students (See our message board)
A website that includes textbook information to make it easier for students to purchase books online. This will be up during the spring semester with books for summer classes.
Better educate professors on making smart textbook choices, on using d2l, using the print shops, and on other ways to enhance learning and make it more affordable for students (See our faculty options page)
Recognition of professors and departments who turn textbook orders in early, making it possible for more used books to be obtained, and who effectively use textbooks and materials in their classes
Using copy shop booklets instead of textbooks for some classes
Educate students on how to make better textbook choices to get the most for their money (See our student options page)
Textbook rental systems on a university- or department-wide level
