A Taste of Italy
Relatives are in town visiting and you are trying to decide where to take them out to dinner. The Olive Garden is your solution for a dinner that takes you away from the hustles and bustles of the day with the atmosphere of the Italian scenery around the restaurant, delicious food and beverages, and the wonderful service provided. The Olive Garden can be found in six different locations around the Hampton Roads area, which includes Newport News, Hampton, Williamsburg, Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach, VA.
When arriving at the Olive Garden, the exterior is one that is different from other restaurants around town because it shows a taste of Italy before you even step inside the restaurant. Once you are inside, the walls are decorated in Italian scenery from all the way down to the bar and tile floors. Scenery of buildings, rivers, and people on the street in vintage clothing enjoying the day.Warm colors on the tile floor, the bar that is near the front of the restaurant, and the decorative details on and around the restaurant give it a special touch to the atmosphere of the rooms. The chairs and tables that are provided outside are of metal, not the wood that is provided inside. Umbrellas and heaters are also available in case the sun is bright or it is somewhat chilly outside for someone. As you walk through the restaurant following the host/hostess, you can hear the faint Italian music playing through the speakers from up above.
The food at the Olive Garden has many seasonings, depending on what you choose to order. The Create-Your-Own-Pizza selection on the menu allows you to choose from several toppings and the pizza itself is filled with many seasonings with a taste of Italy in it. The baked chicken parmigiana is toasted chicken topped with chunky tomato sauce and a helping of spaghetti also topped with chunky tomato sauce ($11.75). The cheese ravioli is "cheese-filled ravioli topped with marinara sauce and melted Italian cheeses ($8.95)." ("Entrees") If you wanted dessert to top off the evenings meal, there are plenty of desserts to choose from on the menu. The chocolate lasagna, "layers of chocolate cake and sweet butter cream, topped with morsels of semi-sweet chocolate ($4.95)" ("Desserts"), and black tie mousse cake which is "moist chocolate cake, dark chocolate cheesecake and creamy custard mousse, all layered beneath white and dark chocolate icing, ($4.95)" ("Desserts") add that extra fullness to your stomach. Needing something to wash all the food down? No need to worry, the Olive Garden has a wide range of drinks from wine to beer to non-alcoholic drinks, including my favorite raspberry lemonade. All the meals are somewhat large in portion, but enough for one person to eat. If you do not finish all of your meal, to go boxes are also available if you decide to save some of your meal for another day. The meals are not as high priced as you may think for all the food that is provided and the unlimited amount of salad, breadsticks, and beverages.
The service that the wait staff provided I thought was good. They are nicely dressed in their black pants and white shirt with a decorative tie, even the females on the staff wore ties. If a guest was about to cross paths in front of them, they would kindly let the guest go first and waited until they passed by to go. During the meals, they would come up every few minutes and see if we needed a refill on salad, breadsticks, or our drinks. If we got low on our drinks, they would automatically bring out another one so we did not have to wait until they came back around to our table. Usually after two refills they started asking if we wanted any more to drink or if we wanted more breadsticks during our meal just in case we did not want anymore food or drink.
Overall I felt that the Olive Garden provided a wonderful Italian atmosphere, delicious food at an affordable price, and a courteous wait staff that earned their tip for the evening's meal. If you ever need somewhere to take relatives, friends, or just yourself out for a nice meal, the Olive Garden has just what you are looking for. You can find a taste of Italy right in our own backyard.
