| One major attraction around the Hampton Roads area is Busch Gardens, which is located in Williamsburg, Virginia. BuschGardens has a wide variety of rides including four roller coasters, two water rides, and two 4-D shows. | ||||||||||||
| Currently at Busch Gardens there are six countries including the newly added country of Ireland. Italy, Germany, France and New France, England, and Scotland also make up the theme park, along with a roller coaster and/or 4-D show in each country. One of the roller coasters is Alpengiest which is located in Germany. It is one "of the tallest roller coasters and most twisted roller coasters in the world" ("Rides") in which you are literally dangling your feet while sitting, going upside down, and every which way during the ride. Alpengiest is definitely not for the timid, but beware, the line can sometimes get long especially during the summer time. | ||||||||||||
| The second roller coaster is Apollo's Chariot, which is located in the country of Italy. This roller coaster encompasses nine drops, the first of which plunges passengers down 210 feet of steel track ("Rides"). As I went up the first hill, the feeling of anxiousness and nervousness took over me. Being so high that I saw the parking lot where my car was parked was not a comforting feeling. Newton's law of gravity started going through my head, what goes up must come down, and with that I just held my arms up and screamed during the whole ride. At the end of the ride, the roller coaster makes an abrupt stop making everyone jerk forward and then back in their seats. Next time I'll remember to brace myself for the stop at the end of the ride. Italy also holds the Roman Rapids, water rafting ride; Turkish Delight and Tradewind, both roller coasters for the younger generation. Also included is Escape from Pompeii water ride which will definitely get you soaked, and Festa Train Station which can take you around the park stopping at the different countries along the way. | ||||||||||||
| Located in Scotland is the Loch Ness Monster roller coaster. This ride takes you on many loops and twists throughout in hopes of making someone lose their lunch. Riding this ride was very exciting because of the fact that I got to go upside down twice and see the ground above me. Would I go on this ride again? Most definitely! | ||||||||||||
| Also located on the edge of Germany next to the Rhine River is the Big Bad Wolf roller coaster. This roller coaster is particularly different because you are sitting in carts that are dangling from the rails instead of your feet dangling. As I rode along, we were going down drops and turns, but also swaying in our carts to the turns of the ride. Feeling uneasy during the ride makes the roller coaster the more exciting and scary. When I thought the ride was over, I was wrong! We had one more drop that made me feel like I was going to splash into the Rhine River. That feeling made a great ending to the Big Bad Wolf roller coaster. | ||||||||||||
| Located in England at the Globe Theatre is R.L. Stein's Haunted Lighthouse 4-D show. When you enter the theatre, you are asked to grab a pair of glasses that will allow you to watch the show in 4-D. During the show you are taken away by the special effects and the occasional sprays of water. Be prepared to get a little wet if you decide to sit towards the middle of the theatre! Another 4-D adventure is Corkscrew Hill located in the newest country of Ireland. In this show we are taken back in time to a town in Ireland and taken on a ride with a child that wants to sell us to a witch. When the witch instead wants to cook you in her potion, the child changes his mind about selling us and has to find a way out of the castle while "carrying" us in a box. During the show, make sure your seat belt is tightly fastened so you do not fall out of your seat from all the tilts and turns you will make! | ||||||||||||
| If you are ever headed out towards Williamsburg or live there, take a trip over to BuschGardens. With thrilling roller coaster rides, water rides to cool you off, and 4-D shows, you will have a wonderful time exploring the different countries and what they have to offer. | ||||||||||||
