Adrift in the Universe:

Anomalies in the

expansion theory

Recent studies made of the motion of the galaxies neighboring [and including] the Milky Way, have shown that they are drifting apart from the rest... but at a slightly different manner.

The theory held by most in the astronomical community is that the universe is expanding in a steady outward direction [with only marginal interruption caused by neighboring galaxies]. But observations made of the motion of said galaxies have detected a second motion.... One that is carrying the galaxies in question in the direction of the constellation Virgo at a speed of one and a half million miles an hour. Such an occurrence should not be possible by current understanding of the theory. And, as yet, the underlying cause is still unknown.

The most logical theory to account for this anomaly is that there is something of unknown proportion exerting a gravitational pull on the galaxies in this area. Unfortunately, it cannot be determined at this time whether the " Unknown " is stationary, or moving as well.

But, considering the influence exerted, it is estimated that the Unknown would need be more than the size of 100,000 of our galaxy to have such an effect.

Further research into this area will be needed before any concrete findings can be handed down.
