This site is a good history of China. It doesn't really have anything about ROC on Taiwan since 1949 though.
Two sites sponsored by the ROC Government Information Office are this one here that brings you to the history of Taiwan. Another here gives you a framed-out page with a history of China.
Another site is The Fairbank Virtual Library of Chinese History named after the late harvard historian John Fairbank.
