THE OXEN:

The Egyptians and Babylonians were among the earliest people to use oxen.
The ancient Chinese harnessed the Ox but never milked it.
In Attica and Peloponnesia in Greece, an ox could only be killed for sacrifice. This act was considered to be murder and the knife used had to be thrown away.
The Chinese used the Ox instead of the bull in their Spring festivals and fertility rites.

Superstitions

If bad weather is coming, the ox will refuse to leave its stall.

Magickal Attributes

Working patiently, strength for the long haul.
Prosperity
A symbol of sacrifices made or needing to be made.
Gaining patience and stamina for a project that will take time.

Chant

Like the sacred oxen at the altar,
I have paid what price was asked.
Now I move beyond sacrifice,
Reaping benefits from my tasks.
No man shall tell me what is sin.
The Mother's judgement is between us two.
No other's word has power o'er me,
For under Her hands I start anew.
