| May 29, 2009 Dear Parents, Here are a few last minute reminders for the GFGA. 1. I have sent home in the Friday folder a copy of your childs emergency form from the beginning of the year. If the information is still accurate, please initial at the top of the form. If there have been any changes, please make the necessary corrections. In either case, please return the form on Monday, so I have them for the trip. 2. Balance for the trip is due on Monday. Based on some improved group rates, the final totals are: Students - $275, Chaperones - $280, Guests (double room) - $345, and Guests (single room) - $470. Assuming a $150 deposit, balances are: Students - $125, Chaperones - $130, Guests (double room) - $195, and Guests (single room) - $320. Please make checks payable to Triangle Day School. 3. Please remember to bring/send any regular medications that your child must take. If you are coming on the trip, you may administer the medicine yourself. If you are not traveling with your child, his/her rooming chaperone will administer any medication. Please make sure that all medicines are clearly labeled with name and instructions. 4. I have checked with the hotel, and they do offer amenities such as irons, hair dryers, and coffee makers in the rooms. There is an outdoor pool available from 10 AM 8 PM, so you may want to pack your bathing suit. Although we do not have a certified lifeguard in our group, students may swim under the supervision of their parents. A swimming permission slip is included for children whose parents are not joining us. 5. The weather forecast looks fairly promising, but please remember to pack a raincoat or umbrella, just in case. Here is the latest from weather.com: 6/3 (W) 73/57, 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms 6/4 (Th) 75/59, 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms 6/5 (F) 76/56, 30% chance of showers 6. Dont forget to pack a bag lunch for Wednesday. We will not have access to microwaves at lunchtime, so we will truly be brown bagging it. Also, make sure you have a few snacks with you (granola bars, crackers, etc.). The time between meals can feel long, and its not always possible to buy something. 7. Lunch on day 2 and 3 will be eaten in small groups at various cafes around the zoo and Franklin Institute. However, we will also be offering optional make-your-own bag lunches. Students and adults may come to a designated room the night before to prepare a lunch to carry on the trip. 8. All adults must have government-issued photo identification to show to security at the U.S. Mint. 9. If you need to contact the group during the trip, you may reach me on my cell phone (919-451-5895). (Please note that I will not be able to leave my phone on when we are inside museums and historic sites, but I will check messages once we exit.) I will have all unaccompanied children call home to confirm that we have arrived safely on Wednesday. 10. I have also attached a packing list and chaperone group list. In planning the chaperone groups, I tried to balance student requests with combinations of children who would work and behave well together. Every student was able to get some of the people he/she requested. Please keep in mind that chaperone groups can tour together, allowing students to spend time with even more of their friends. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me. Sincerely, Ms. Tedeschi |
