Time Heals
          ( so they say )

I passed you on the street today,
and sneaked a glance into your eyes
before I quickly looked away.
Holding my breath,
I waited,
braced myself,
waited for the pain to start,
to settle it's grip upon my heart,
the familier pain that's haunted me
ever since we've been apart.
Relief,
this hurt was less intense
I realized with a shock.
Time must have dulled the anger
that dwelled within my heart.
Someday I may try love again,
but I really doubt I will.
I'll just guard my heart for now
and let my bruises heal.
