A Night in the Park
August 11, 2001

On our first weekend here, a group of six of us decided it would be a good idea to wait in line for free tickets to a performance of Anton Chekov's "The Seagull" in the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.  The show featured an all-star cast including Natalie Portman, Christopher Walken, Meryl Streep,  John Goodman, and others.  But the show had become so popular, we actually had to camp out overnight to see it!

Tim and Leslie contribute lines to a surreal poem, written by about 150 people waiting in line.  Here's our part to the right. Guess which line is mine...

I washed my face with the clean coolness and picked up the letter
Which ignited immediately above the flame of my yellow Bic® lighter
The flame rose up and absorbed the whole.
It flickered around the feet of the little man
And sholt and gyred like a flinkard tove
with a mouth full of fizzing strawberry pop-rocks.

Karina and Sarah are enraptured by the charm, wit, and good looks of Joti and me.

Tim actually strung a hammock from a tree to a lightpost on 7th Avenue. We are going to get him to audition for the next "Survivor."
Clockwise from the top: Leslie, Sarah, Joti, me, Tim and Karina celebrate, receiving our tickets after a long night.

The show, by the way, was incredible.
