Manchester Square Dance Club members and friends 45th Anniversary Dance
Manchester Square Dance Club originated in the fall of 1956, when a group of Manchester couples approached Earl Johnston to start a class in Manchester. The club was formally organized in February of 1957 when the first officers were elected.
Since the town recreation department originally sponsored the Manchester Square Dance Club, the club made a series of donations to the town. These donations included sports equipment for the recreation department and food for the welfare department.
The membership of the club grew to 277 couples in 1963. During this high membership period, many dances were held as member only. Currently, the Manchester Square Dance Club has just under 20 member couples.
The Manchester Square Dance Club meets on the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of the month from September to May. See our dance schedule. Dances are held at Second Congregational Church in Manchester. See the directions to the church.
At the present time Manchester Square Dance Club dances are hosted by guest callers and cuers selected by the MSDC Board and Program Chairpersons. The club officers and committee people continue to carry on club duties and promote square dancing.
A note to all square dancers: Feel free to come dance with us, we would be glad to have you here.
A note to non-square dancers: Square Dancing is lots of fun and a great way to meet new friends. The people are friendly, and a night of dancing is great exercise and relatively inexpensive. So if you are interested in some family or individual fun, contact one of our officers and ask for some information.
