NATO

North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Defense regional alliance, governed by Article 9 of the North Atlantic Treaty, signed on April 4th 1949. The first signatories are Belgium, United Kingdom, Canada, Denmark, France, Iceland, Italy, Luxemburg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal and the United States of America. Greece and Turkey joined up in 1952, West Germany in 1955 ans Spain in 1982. In 1966, France withdrew from the organization integrated command, but not from the alliance itself.

NATO's first objective is to protect the stability, the freedom and the propsperity of its members thanks to a security collective system.
