Kirov CGN Battle
Cruiser This nuclear powered Battle cruiser carries significant anti ship, anti air, and anti submarine weapons. It is typically used as the center of a anti surface warfare group. The Kirov is the worlds largest modern, non-aviation, surface combatant. |
| MISSILES The ship is armed with the Granit long-range anti-ship missile system, known in the west as the Shipwreck missile. Twenty Granit antiship missiles are installed under the upper deck. In ripple-fire mode, the lead missile follows a high flight trajectory to increase the target acquisition capacity, while the other missiles follow a low level flight path. The missiles exchange targeting data in flight. If the lead missile is intercepted then one of the other missiles automatically takes on the lead role. The missile system is robust against hostile jamming countermeasures. |

| AIR DEFENCE MISSILES An S-300F Air Defence Missile Complex is installed on the ship, with 12 launchers and 96 vertical launch air defence missiles. The system provides self-defence against anti-ship missiles, fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft and hostile surface ships. The system can operate autonomously or it can be integrated into the ship's combat systems and download target data from the ship's sensors air defence missile. |
||
| GUN SYSTEM The ship is equipped with a Kashstan air-defence missile gun system. The system provides self defence against a range of precision weapons including incoming anti-ship and anti-radar missiles and air bombs, fixed and rotary wing aircraft, and small naval ships.. The missile range is between 1.5 and 8 kilometers and the gun range is 0.5 to 1.5 kilometers for altitudes between 5 and 4,000 meters. Targets can be engaged at speeds up to 600 meters per second. The system can engage up to six targets simultaneously, one target for each combat module. The guns can fire at a rate of 1,000 rounds per minute. |

| ARTILLERY
- 130 MM GUN The Kirov is fitted with a 130 mm AK-130 multipurpose two-barrel gun. The system engages coastal, sea and air targets including incoming sea-skimming anti-ship missiles. The main components of the artillery system are a computer based control system with a multi-band radar, television and optical target sighting, and a two barrel 130 mm gun mount with a turret mounted optical sighting unit. Loading is automatic and the gun can fire a range of artillery ammunition including contact and proximity point fuses and practice and discharging rounds. The system is resistant to hostile jamming. The gun can be operated under fully automatic remote control interfaced to the radar control system, under autonomous control from the turret mounted sighting unit or the gun can be laid manually. The rate of fire can be selected from single shots, salvoes or bursts. The range is in excess of 22 kilometers and the maximum rate of fire is between 20 and 35 rounds per minute. |

- 30 MM GUN ARTILLERY 30 MM GUN The ship's 30-mm artillery system is the AK-630. The AK-306 engages airborne targets including sea skimming anti-ship missiles, small sea vessels, floating mines and light armored land-based targets. |

| ANTI-SUBMARINE
WARFARE The ship has 10 missile or torpedo tubes with 20 Vodopad-NK anti-submarine missiles or torpedoes. The ship has two anti-submarine and anti-torpedo rocket systems, the Udav-1 with 40 anti-submarine rockets and the RBU-1000. The ship has two RBU-1000 six-tube anti-submarine rocket launchers, with 102 rockets. The range is 1 kilometer. |
||
| PROPULSION The ship's propulsion system is based on a combination of nuclear power and steam turbine. The system has 4 nuclear reactors and two auxiliary boilers. The four steam turbines deliver 28,000 horsepower. Two shafts drive two 5-bladed fixed pitch propellers. The propulsion system provides a full speed of 31 knots. When operating on the auxiliary boilers the ship's speed is 14 knots. The ship has an endurance of 60 days. |
