Create Classroom Home Page in Composer

First we will be creating an initial home page.  On it will be links to other pages you will create later.

1.                  Choose All Programs – Netscape 7.1 - Composer.

2.                  Choose File – Open File and navigate to Classroomdemo W:\Teacher’s_Web_Page.html.  (Or click here to copy it from the Internet.  You will also need to copy the district logo picture as well.)

3.                  Replace “Teacher’s” with your own name.

4.                  Change the various labels of “Page” to be what you want for each page (by unit, subject, etc.)

5.                  Choose File – Save As.  Create your own directory by clicking on the Create New Folder icon.  Type your first initial and last name and hit [Enter].  Double-click on the folder you just created.  Change the file name to your first initial and last name and click Save

6.                  Choose Format – Page Title & Properties and change the title to “[Your Name’s] Web Page” and click OK.  Click Save.

7.                  Right-click on “Email Teacher” and choose Link Properties.  Change teacher to your own email address.  Click OK.  Click Save.

8.                  Edit the “email” hyperlink at the bottom of the page in the same manner.

9.                  Highlight the phrase in one cell to create a hyperlink to an additional page.  Right-click on the highlighted phrase, select Create Link.  In link location type the one-word description (do not use capitals) and click OK.  You will need to remember what one-word description you used for each cell.  Highlight the link and give it an appropriate phrase.

10.             Continue by creating a hyperlink for each cell using a one-word description.

11.             Format – Page Colors and Background.  Click on the color next to background to bring up a list of choices.  Pick a color for your webpage and click OK.

12.             To insert graphics:

a.      Open Internet Explorer and find a picture you like.  Right-click on the image and choose Save Picture As.  Navigate to your directory on W:\, give the image a meaningful file name and click Save.
