Make A Donation To Mustard Seed!!

The young adults of the Catholic
Diocese of Raleigh are planning two, one-week mission trips to the Mustard Seed
Communities (MSC) in Kingston, Jamaica in March 2003. We are looking
for people who...
...Have a desire to love and
serve God's children
...Are willing to share their time and talents with others
...Enjoy traveling and experiencing other cultures
MSC could benefit from the skills
and talents of anyone who is willing to serve Christ and the
people of MSC! While many medical, computer, and engineering professionals
have been called to serve MSC, they welcome teachers, organizers, musicians, and
especially
anyone who loves to be around children!!

Basic Details:
- You must have a current passport as of the dates of travel!! No travel with birth
certificates. If you don't have a passport, we will help you
apply for one. It normally takes approximately 6-8 weeks.
- Missionaries will be responsible for their own fundraising.
The estimated cost of the trip is $800-900 for airfare, food, and lodging.
Fundraising opportunities will be available for those who need financial
assistance. (Last year's events were very successful!)
- Like last year's trip, we expect to organize into three groups: a
medical team, a computer team, and a building team. We
are open to creating other groups to accommodate the goals of those who have
other skills such as teachers, organizers, musicians, writers, etc.
Currently, some of
the Mustard Seed "wish lists" tasks include setting up a medical
clinic and providing physicals to the children; assist with some of
the computer and distance learning goals of the community; and help finish
projects such as setting up the new bakery and day care.
And, most importantly, MSC wants people to help care for the children, play
with them, make them laugh, give them attention and plenty of love!!
- Time Demands:
"Boxing day" will be held in March to get all boxes of
supplies packed and ready to go. In addition, each of the teams
may hold smaller meetings and organize collection drives for items such as
computer parts, medical supplies, tools, etc. Participation in
fundraising activities is optional, but encouraged! A commissioning
ceremony and Mass will also be planned prior departing on the trips.
Please be prepared to attend most or all of these meetings.
- You do not need to be Catholic to go on this trip. If you
have a desire to serve God by serving His children, we would love to have
you join us! The trips will be designed to be a type of
Lenten Retreat with an emphasis on social justice teachings. Hopefully
we will have a spiritual director on these trips as we did last
year.
