The Opposite Of Attraction
– Part Five: The Charm
Aamalie: You know,
I really should upload the picture that inspired the shower scene from last
chapter one of these days... Hn.
Disclaimer: Santa cheated me. He only got me
the first season box set. I wanted the rights to it, dammit.

It was so warm... So pleasant. Sango couldn’t
remember a time when she’d slept better. With a contented sigh, she let her
eyes drift open- only to be met by a shocking sight. That is to say... Miroku’s chest.
Sango froze, hardly daring to even
breathe. How had this happened? She was on her side, curled into him with her
forehead all but pressed up against his pectorals. (Thank God he was wearing a
shirt!) He was just as close to her, with his arm looped around the curve of
her waist so that his fingertips brushed her back. It didn’t help any that her
shirt had ridden up slightly during the night, because it made it so he was
touching her bare skin. And, was it just Sango, or
had their legs somehow entangled?!
Something occurred to Sango then... The day before, Miroku
had been teasing her about the way they had been sleeping. Judging by how they
were now, it was very possible that he hadn’t been lying. Which
meant that he had been telling the truth.
This was so embarrassing.
‘Calm down,’ Sango told herself, forcing her rattled nerves into a less
panicky state. ‘I can’t get out of this, and he’ll never have to know. This
is nothing to get freaked out about. It’s probably just because of some
subconscious attraction to body heat or something, that’s all. Just get up and act
like nothing happened.’
Having decided on her
course of action, Sango made to follow through,
carefully pulling her leg out from where it had been caught between Miroku’s. God. How had that
happened? No, she didn’t want to know. The lecher had probably woken up before
her and manipulated her into this awkward position.
“Well, this is
interesting.”
No. Just,
no. Fate would not be so cruel.
Sango chanced a look up, and found Miroku looking back with a rather intrigued expression on
his features. She couldn’t help but note that he looked fairly cute having just
woken up, but... What was she thinking?
“Let go of me,” she said,
ducking her head and wishing that her cheeks would stop burning like she knew
they were. It didn’t help that that leg of hers was still stuck where it was.
It would only be so long before he said something.
“Now why would I do a
thing like that?” Miroku asked, his eyes obtaining
what Sango considered a dangerous gleam. His fingers
began to move in a small, circular motion on her back, and it suddenly felt
more difficult for Sango to breathe. Swallowing the
lump that had begun to form in her throat, Sango
tried to push him away.
“Because
I told you to!”
“Fair enough, I suppose.
But tell me one thing, Sango.” She could feel his
breath against her hair when he exhaled, and the blankets that covered them
felt too heavy.
“What?”
Indeed, what? What was
wrong with her voice?
There was a slight pause,
and she felt him chuckle and shift slightly closer to her. Sango
looked up at him again, and he smiled before asking, “Why is it that you were
molesting me in my sleep? I mean, it’s not every morning I wake up with a
beautiful young woman in such a... provocative state.”
Sango flushed a deep red, shoving him
away with as much force as she could muster. “Pervert!
How dare-” Not for the first time that morning, Sango
froze. They hadn’t been alone. There were, not one,
not two, but three cameramen in the room already, all filming.
Where had all of her luck
gone in such a short time?
She turned to glare angrily
at Miroku, but he didn’t seem to mind at all. He
crossed his arms behind his head on the pillow, letting those drawing eyes of
his drift shut. “You can go ahead and take a shower first,” he said lightly. Sango huffed, dragging the bottom of her shirt back down to
a proper level, pretending that the way he had been tracing his fingers across
her back had done nothing to her but infuriate her.
“Why?” she asked
scathingly. “So you can try and sneak in and get another peek?”
One eye popped open, and
he examined her casually. “Of course not. I just
figured that I should let the lady have access to the cold water first.” He
grinned cockily at her. “Don’t use it all up now, okay?”
Was he insinuating what
she thought he was insinuating? And in front of the cameras?!
Mortified, she grabbed her
pillow and whacked him with it before scrambling out of the bed and stomping
her way to the bathroom after gathering her clothing for the day. Miroku didn’t mind at all, and just watched her go as she
did her best to ignore him.
It was going to be so fun
seducing her.
-
“Oh, come on Sango. Stop pretending to ignore me,” Miroku
sighed.
“I’m not pretending,” Sango said, taking another sip of her orange juice and
continuing to stare straight ahead towards the shoreline. She had decided that
one of the things she liked about
“You know it was just a
joke.”
“Hmph.”
Miroku sighed again, staring at the back
of her head. She was being stubborn at the moment, as she was still annoyed
with him for what had happened earlier that morning. It was a pity... Sango was fun to so rile up, but when she did get that way,
she seemed to enjoy holding a grudge. Like now... She
was more or less refusing to carry a decent conversation with him, instead
preferring to stare out at the water of the pool she was sitting on the edge
of, her feet dangling in the water.
Oh well. At least she was
wearing shorts, thanks to the nice, warm Hawaiian weather. Sango
had very nice legs.
“Ah! There you two are!”
They both looked back
towards the house to see the show hostess from the first day walking towards
them, all smiles. Sango pulled her legs from the
water and slipped on her sandals before standing, acting as though she didn’t
see Miroku’s offered hand.
Kagome’s smile only
widened when she reached them. “Hello! How have you two been since I last saw
you? You’ve both been getting along, I hope?”
Sango looked as though she were close to
bursting out in disgusted laughter, but Miroku chose
then to slip his arm around her waist and pull her close with a wink. “Of
course we are! Never been better! Oof...” He released
Sango with another sigh when she jabbed him in the
side with her elbow.
“Speak for yourself.”
“Ah... But Sango...”
Kagome giggled. “Oh, do I
sense a bit of tension? Well, I’m sure the two of you will work it out. I...”
she trailed off when Miroku suddenly sprung forward
and gather her hands between his. “Uh...”
“Thank you, Miss Kagome,
for your unfaltering faith in me,” he said, with all due seriousness.
“Uh... Your
welcome? Eek!”
Somehow, one of Miroku’s hands had managed to find its way to her bottom.
Fancy that.
“Ah! Sango,
let go!” The young woman scowled, relentlessly pulling Miroku
away from Kagome by the ear.
“You idiot, don’t you have
any self restraint? I think you’re the one in need of some cold water!” And,
with that said, she released his ear and shoved him into the pool. He came up a
moment later, spitting out water and pushing his black hair out of his eyes
before he looked at her again with a grin.
“Heated pool,” he said
cheerily. “We’re going to have to come out here sometime, Sango!"
Sango would have given a retort, but she
couldn’t seem to find her voice. Just why had Miroku
decided to wear a white shirt, today of all days? It was sort of...
Distracting... She forced herself to jerk her eyes away from his chest and up
to his own eyes.
“Maybe,” she said. “One
day, when you’re not acting like such a jerk.”
Then, she turned and
walked away.
Kagome winced as a door
slammed. “So, I guess this means plans are changing?”
-
“What the hell do
you think you’re doing?”
Miroku shrugged. “Sitting outside and
waiting for my clothes to dry enough so that I can go inside and do things?”
Kikyou resisted the urge to smack him
upside the head. It was bad that she was here already, interfering with what
was going on, but interference was needed! Things weren’t going along to
plans at all, and it was very frustrating. “I thought you were trying to make
her like you,” she said dryly, “not piss her off.”
“I’m working on it,” he
said carelessly. Kikyou eyed him dangerously, leaning
back in her seat as she did so.
“Then why has she locked
herself up in that room again?”
Miroku passed a hand over his forehead.
“I don’t know. She’s mad, I suppose.”
“Then maybe you need to
change your approach?” Kikyou suggested. “After all,
the way you’re going about it now seems to be backfiring. And you know that
viewers aren’t going to be much interested in what’s going on if Sango’s never
wanting to do anything with you.”
“Yes.”
“Well, then. Fix it.” Kikyou stood, turning to leave. “Don’t make me regret my
decisions, and don’t forget how much money is on the line.”
Miroku didn’t even bother to watch her
go.
‘How could I?’
-
“Let me in?”
“No!”
“Please?”
“Go away.”
“But I sleep in there
too.”
“I don’t care.”
“Sango!”
“Leave.”
“Fine,” Miroku grumbled through the door. “I’ll just sleep on the
couch then.” And so, that’s where he headed. Wishing there was at least a blanket
to be found, which there wasn’t, he laid down and
closed his eyes, and was asleep within minutes.
Or so it seemed.
“Asleep?” one cameraman
said.
“Yup. Looks that way.
Let’s get out of here. Nothing else is going to happen tonight.”
Their talk faded as they
left the house, and the moment that the front door closed, Miroku
sat up. He had things to do.
-
She was asleep when he
sneaked into the bedroom again, and Miroku couldn’t
help but smile. Sango was most definitely pretty, and
she looked so sweet when she slept. One would never guess that she could have
such a temper when she was awake if they were to see her like this first.
He sunk down onto the
mattress beside her, noting that she must have fallen asleep without intending
to, as the light brown covers hadn’t even been drawn over her yet. Reaching
out, Miroku touched Sango
on the shoulder, shaking her slightly. He bent over to whisper in her ear,
“Hey, wake up.”
He felt her stiffen, and
quickly released her. A second later, she sat straight upwards, and a book that
Miroku hadn’t noticed in her hand connected with his
head. Sango blinked. “You again.”
“Who
else?” Miroku mumbled, rubbing the spot on his forehead where the
hardback had connected with his head.
She made a note of
exasperation. “Can’t you catch a hint? I don’t want to talk to you right now.”
Miroku laughed. “I know, but what can I
say? I’m persistent.”
“Yeah,” Sango muttered. “A persistent ass.”
“Why are you mad? Jealous
that I touched Kagome, are you?” He leaned closer to her, grinning smugly.
“Why would I be jealous?” Sango countered. “I barely know you.” She made a face when
he tapped her nose knowingly.
“True, but it doesn’t take
long to have a crush on someone. Besides, I’m supposed to be paying attention
to you, aren’t I? That’s the point of this show, to see if we’re attracted to
each other. What’s the point of spending two weeks together if I’m not even
interested in you? Is that what you’re asking yourself?”
She gave him a long,
thoughtful look before she rolled over so that she didn’t have to face him
anymore. “Stop trying to put ideas in my head.”
“That wasn’t my
intention... But never mind. Are you hungry?”
Sango peered over her shoulder at him.
“What? You think food can put you back into my good graces?”
“It did the first time.”
She rolled her eyes
heavenward, although he could see the beginnings of a smile on her lips... Sango had very nice lips... “Well, it’s not going to work a
second time. Nice try though.”
“Ah, but you haven’t eaten
since breakfast, as far as I can remember.”
“True,” Sango admitted.
“So, then, will you accept
my peace offering?” Miroku inquired, bringing forward
the plate that he had set on the nightstand. Sango
let out a laugh when she saw what he had made, and took the plate with an
exasperated shake of her head.
“Grilled cheese? Somehow I
doubt you’re a chef.”
“Do you doubt the caliber
of my cooking?”
“Maybe.” She took a bite of the sandwich
anyway. “Alright. You win. I was hungry.”
“So I’m forgiven?”
“No. I don’t forgive
perverts easily.”
Miroku laughed, lying down beside her
anyway. Sango raised an eyebrow at him, as though
asking him what he was up to. He winked at her. “Well, just for that, next time
this happens, I’m bringing up strawberries and whip cream, and we’ll see if I
can convince you to forgive me then.”
“Just be prepared to be
hit with something heavier than a book if you do.”
“Fair
enough. Say...”
“Hmm?”
Miroku rose onto his elbow so that he
could see her face better. “Sorry for making you mad. I suppose I deserved that
swim in the pool, didn’t I?”
She didn’t say anything
until she took another bite of the grilled cheese sandwich and set down the
food on the plate. Sango brushed her hands together
to rid them of any crumbs before she scooted off of the other side of the bed.
“Stand up.”
“Why?” Miroku
inquired, obliging her anyway. Sango smiled, walking
over and grabbing him by the arm and pulling him along. “Sango?”
She stopped at the door,
pushing him through. He turned to give her a questioning look, only to be
surprised even more when she leaned forward, gracing his cheek with a quick
kiss. “You’re forgiven,” Sango said, and he saw that
she was blushing. “But you’re still sleeping on the couch.”
And then she stepped back
inside of the bedroom and closed the door.
Miroku merely gaped at the closed door
for a long minute before he managed regain his wits and find his voice.
“Can I at least get a
blanket?”
“Goodnight Miroku.”
