Like A Fairytale –
Part Five: Music Box
The Dinner
hall buzzed with chatter and gossip. No one, save Miroku, knew much about the
guests or what they were like and Miroku wasn't spilling. One or two servants
had seen someone or another walking around, but that wasn't much use now was
it?
"What are
we waiting for?" Sango wondered out loud, peaking through the crack
between the doors.
"We are
to be announced." Kikyou frowned, "Anyone born to elephants or oafs
would know that."
"Kikyou."
Rin hissed, "Hold your tongue and shut up."
So Kikyou,
being as mature as she is, resorted to glaring at Sango rather then
speaking, engulfing the two in the classic staring contest.
"Sango"
"Not now
Miroku."
"But I'm
supposed to-"
"Not.
Now. Miroku... I'm busy."
Miroku sighed
and scratched his head. Walking in front of Kikyou, he poked one of her eyes.
"OW!"
She wailed, holding it.
"There,
you win. Now Sango-"
"Miroku!
What was that for?" Rin asked, biting her lip. She was there to keep the
girls in check, not watch one of them get poked in the eye...
"Because."
"Because...?"
"Because
Sango's the most beautiful women you've ever laid eyes on??" Kagome burst
out.
"Because
she's smart?" Rin put in.
"Because
she dances divinely."
"How
would you-"
"Because
she sings like an angel?"
"Now
Rin-"
"Because
she knows every story?"
"I don't
not!"
"Or is it
because you've fallen madly in love in such a short amount of time. Ah! Love at
first sight!" Both sighed, leaning against one another for support.
. . .
. . .
. . .
. . .
"Yeah, sure,
actually, it's because Kikyou's too arrogant, Kagome, you're too hyper, and
Rin, you have too many mood swings. Let's go Sango."
"Go? Go
where?" She asked, dazed as she walked back to the door with him. Three
other men... well.... I guess you could call them men. Two were around Sango
and Kagome's age while the other looked closer to Rin's. Kikyou looked her
escort once over and shrugged, while Rin seemed to have stars in her eyes.
Kagome and whoever her escort was blushed and wouldn't meet each other's gaze.
He had the cutest dog ears though, that Sango just couldn't help but want to
touch. Kikyou almost sensed her sisters blush and looked back at her.
Immediately her eyes narrowed and she glared.
(A/N: You have
no idea how corny I feel writing this next part... it's just so stupid -.-; ah
well... gotta use it for me to get to the next part.... sorta....)
"Princess
Kikyou escorted by the Count Kuranosuke" (A/N: >.> four princes
wouldn't work and I didn't want to make him a king... Why not 4? North East
West South, Inu and Sess have west, northern is lost, Kag and Kikyou are from
the east...that's three...)
"Her
lovely Sister, Princess Kagome escorted by Prince Inuyasha!"
'So that's
the guy...' Sango thought, watching the two walk out.
"The
duchess, Lady Rin escorted by his highness, Prince Sesshoumaru
"Lady
Sango, escorted by Prince Miroku" (A/N: And there's the fourth! South!)
Sango's eyes
widened and she looked up at the grinning Miroku.
* * * *
"A
prince?! Kagome he's a prince!" Sang ranted in the hall after dinner.
"So?"
"So! I've
been slapping a prince! A prince! He could have me beheaded or something!"
"Sango..."
Kagome sighed. "1) You tell Kikyou off all the time and still have your
head, and 2) Do you really think he would do that?"
"Well...no."
. . .
. . .
"But
that's not the point!"
"Girls
come on in! We're picking out rooms!" Rin called from the balcony. Kagome
and Sango couldn't help but see the tall outline of a man standing pretty close
to her.
"Who's
that?"
"No
idea."

Sango, Kagome,
Rin and Kikyou were accompanied by the four guys on their way upstairs.
Darkness had quickly fallen and they had decided that now would be a good time
to find a room. Well... Rin and this Sesshoumaru had decided... IT turns out
Sesshomaru was the elder brother of Inuyasha and next in line for his throne.
He was sent along to keep his brother and distant cousin, Miroku, out of
trouble.
"Wow...
this place is huge..." Sango said in awe.
"Isn't
it?"
The group
jumped and turned around, minus Sesshoumaru... he was simply too dignified to
do so.
"Naraku...
we weren't expecting you until morning." Sesshoumaru said boredly (A/N:...
it's a word if I say it is) "Ladies, boys..." (There was a few
protests from the guys sides at this) "This is Naraku, the 'owner' of the
castle."
"Is he
the King?" Rin asked, not liking him much.
"King....."
Kikyou thought dreamily. Who knew why... she was a princess, so what would
marrying a King do for her?
"No, of
course not. Simply the caretaker." Sesshomaru answered, not missing the
flash of anger on the man's face.
"I'm the
closest thing to a King this kingdom has, I should be-"
"Enough
Naraku. I believe you are to give us a tour tomorrow? We will all be ready at
noon."
"Of
course Sesshoumaru-sama." Naraku said quietly, bowed, and left. Sango got
shivers just looking at him. She feel the anger, resentment, and... jealousy??
They flew off him in a cloud so thick she felt as though she would choke on it.
"What was
his problem?" Kagome ask once he had left.
"Naraku
was a cousin of the late King." Sesshomaru answered simply.
"So?"
"So, the
crybaby's upset that he didn't inherit the kingdom after him." Inuyasha
scoffed, crossing his arms.
"Why
didn't he inherit?" Kikyou asked, almost angrily. She had taken a fancy to
his attitude, not to mention his long locks...
"Naraku
wouldn't inherit because of the prince and princess." Kuranosuke answered,
speaking for almost the first time. He had been looking at Sango most of the
evening, much to Miroku's dislike. There was nothing he could do about it
anyway, he was supposed to be marrying one of the princesses... damn fate.
"But they
haven't been seen in forever!" Kikyou wailed.
"That may
be so, but there's no proof that either children are indeed dead. Until that
time, no one but them could come to the throne. Sesshomaru said calmly,
"Now, it is getting late."
"It is,
come on girls." Rin agreed. The guys couldn't tell but Sango and Kagome
could. She was trying harder to act more responsible, probably to impress the
demon lord. Woo.... could it be puppy love?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! (A/N: sorry...
hyper moment... please continue)
Sango nodded
and wander to a room off to the side. Actually, it was a door to a room, which
was locked.
"Sango,
we're supposed to find a room."
"This is
a room Miroku."
"How
could you be sure? It looks more like a closet to me."
Sango rolled
her eyes, looking around the frame. "Why would you lock a closet?"
Fingering the carvings on the door frame, Sango felt a nagging in the back of
her mind.
"Hey
Miroku?"
"Yes
Sango?"
"Lift me
up."
...
"...pardon
me?"
"Lift me
up."
"Why?"
"Just do
it..." Sango sighed. Miroku shrugged and place his hands around her waist.
"And
Miroku?"
"Yes
Sango?"
"If you
touch my butt I'll kill you. Prince or not."
"Yes
Sango..." He sighed, and lifted her up. Sango groped around the on top of
the door, fingering through the dust that had gathered there over the years.
"Got
it!"
"Got
what?" Miroku asked, trying to move his head so he was able to look up her
skirt. Unfortunately (Or fortunately, whoever you're cheering for) it was in
his face and he couldn't bend far enough without Sango noticing what he was
doing.
"The key
of course." Sango smiled when Miroku had placed her back on the ground.
"Sango...
how did you know that's where the key was?" Miroku asked as she turned the
key in the hole, making her stop.
"... I
don't know." She replied, pushing the door, "That's where I would
hide it."
Sango walked
into the room, followed closely by Miroku.
"Wow..."
The room was
huge and was painted a mixture a pale pink and green. There was a fireplace and
paintings of cheery blossoms surrounding it. The bed was fit for queen, with a
canopy and sheer sheets hanging down from it. Toy, dusty or broken now, lined
the walled and covered the dresser. Sitting atop the fireplace was a Katana and
a portrait of a little girl and kitten.
"She
looks really familiar..." Miroku gasped, but Sango wasn't listening. She
was walking around the room, picking up miscellaneous toys and touching music
sheets on the dresser. Sitting on the bed, Sango picked up a small music box.
Turning the crank, it started playing a sad tune. (A/N: Think beginning of
Sango's Theme. I wanted to cry when I first heard it... it was just so sad.)
"Sango?
What's wrong?" Miroku asked worriedly when Sango's face turned a bit pale
and her eyes glassy.
"Nothing."
She said quickly, putting the music box into a dresser drawer and getting up.
"Come on, let's go."
"Sango-"
Miroku started, following her out of the room.
"I don't
want the room so there's no point in staying. I'll find a different one."
she said, locking the door behind her. "And Miroku? Don't tell anyone
about this. Please?"
"Of
course... but why-"
"What are
you doing here?" A venomous voice asked from behind them. Turning around,
they came face to face with the caretaker.
"Nothing."
Sango answered, pushing past him. Just being around that guy gave her the
creeps.
"It isn't
good to wander alone in the dark."
"Well
then, it's a good thing I'm with her." Miroku said, standing a ways in
front of Sango. (A/N: awww, so protective... KAWAII!) "Now if you'll
excuse us, we need to go find ourselves a room."
Naraku waited
until the two had gone to turn to the door. Pushing and pulling on it he
cursed.
"Dammit..."
"Is
something the matter?" A girl asked, her face hidden behind a fan.
"They got
in Kagura... Not even I could fine that key."
"You
obviously did not look hard." The girl muttered, "Shall we dispose of
her now my lord?"
"No... we
may need her."
