If Only To Live – Part One: The Winds Of War

Disclaimer: You know the drill, I do NOT own Inuyasha! (if I did, me and Sango would be going out right now, hehe)

He looked up at the stars and wondered if this was going to be the day that his wind tunnel finally claimed his life. He wished he could leave this small village but since they blocked off all exits leading to and from the village because of warnings of a large enemy force, he had been forced to stay. He had made some friends in the village, not to mention a very attractive woman named Sango, but he knew that there was no enemy force, or so he thought. He finally stood and walked back to the hut where he was staying. When he got there, there was Sango waiting for him. "What's she doing here?" he thought to himself but then shook it off as he sat down on his futon.

"Hey, Miroku?" asked Sango in a rather worried voice

"Yes, Sango?" he answered back.

"How are you holding up? I know this is pretty boring being confined to the village."

"It's okay, I guess."

"So how do you feel about Naraku's new army?"

"What!" yelled Miroku in a very angry and confused voice. Naraku, that very name made his blood boil because after all, it was Naraku who gave him this wind tunnel.

"I'm sorry, Miroku, I thought you knew."

"It's okay, it isn't your fault but when did he get an army?"

"Nobody knew about it until they started destroying villages."

"Can you walk with me Sango? I want to show you something."

"Sure Miroku."

Miroku led her up to the hill where he had been coming every night and looking at the stars. It was very beautiful with the trees blowing in the cool summer breeze and flowers sprouted up everywhere. He had become attached to Sango during his stay and somehow even fell in love with her. But he didn't know how she felt about him so he didn't bring up that subject. He had brought her to this hill for a romantic reason and she didn't even know it.

"It's beautiful, Miroku!"

"Yes, I come up here every night and watch the stars while I clear my head."

"Can we watch them together?"

"If you wish, Lady Sango," a bit surprised that she would want to look at stars.

"I come up here and think about my hand knowing I can't get attached to no one because I would not want to leave them alone when I died."

"Miroku...."

"That is why I couldn't let myself get attached to y-"

He was cut off mid-sentence as a loud explosion shook the countryside. Miroku protectively wrapped his arms around Sango blushing a bit but soon put those thoughts out of his head as another explosion hit a nearby village, sending it in flames. Miroku and Sango quickly ran as fast as they could to the village and about 15 minutes later, they arrived. The entire village was in flames and a lot of the villagers were slaughtered but some were still alive but only about 10 were going to survive. Sango called her fire-cat demon Kilala and put the survivors on Kilala’s back to carry back to the village. Miroku and Sango walked back and Miroku knew it was time to take action.

Sorry it was so short but I plan on stretching this into a very long story. Please read and review and give me some ideas to put in the story. Thx.

Oh and I will be introducing Inuyasha and the others later. Please R&R.
