| *How long have you been doing hair? I've been doing hair since I was seventeen years old. *How did you get into doing hair? I would have to say it all started on my hair. First by my Godmother with braid extensions and then she taught me. From there I practiced on my own hair and my dolls. I became a young parent at the age of sixteen, and I started braiding my own daughter's hair. When I was 17 my family and neighbors wanted me to do their kids' hair. I did each head for five dollars.It took off from there. Even though I had a child young it didn't stop me from going to school. I was motivated and determined. While in school, the other students complimented me on my hair braid designs I created on my girlfriends and some of the guys:). So I always had people asking how much I charge and do I do this-and-that style. That's when I learnt several new extension methods using braids. No glue, No sewing, No bonding with hot substances- just braids. Later I moved to Chicago, there my skills blossomed. I found myself setting up appointments to friends of friends; from word of mouth to flyers. And there you have it Ms Lady Locs hair extensions. *So you started a business without knowing you started a business? Exactly! *So your style is exclusively hair extensions? Yes, but I do not use wreft sewing or glue. I braid extensions in to your own natural hair locs. Braids- synthetic/ yarn Wrapped 'Silky' Dreads- synthetic/ yarn Loose 'Pinchbraid' Extends- human/ synthetic Bring own hair or yarn. I do not cut or style. 'Click Here For Prices' *How far in advance do you need to make an appointment? About three days in advance, and we take a minimum of a twenty-five dollar deposit to confirm an appointment. Most locticians don't operate under this premise. I do. I want to know in advance that someone is coming. I also want to make sure that they have the exact hair color that they want, I want to talk to them first and meet them to have a (free) consultation to be sure they know what their getting, and that I understand what they want. And also, so they don't cancel at the last minute. *What do you love about your job? I love the opportunity to be creative. To be creative and meet new & different people. It's not the same everyday.
