The Fort Jefferson Dry Tortugas National Park
Here it is Fort Jefferson on the Dry Tortuga Islands.
Beautiful isn't it?
I learned how to snorkel here. It's pretty cool to get so wrapped up in something you forget you are terrified of drowning.
\If you look at the postcard picture on the extreme right and left of the island you will see what are left of the coal docks..it's just the pylons now. We snorkeld from the left pylons around the moat wall to the point in the center in the back, maybe even a little past that. I didn't get brave renought to go way out into the water but hell I snorkled and loved it!
Look up in the Air! It's a Bird!
Under the sea
The obligatorty tourist shot.
Yes I am wearing a bikini. It won't ever happen again.
This is Key West Bight. It's where the Yankee Freedom departs from. It's called an bight and not a harbor because it's naturally occouring.
Across the Bow of the Yankee Freedom 2. The islands in the background are the Marquesas  Atoll
That is the beach where I learned how to snorkel .
Yet again another reason to have a boat.. you can sail to the Dry Tortugas on your own..
Kris on top of Fort Jefferson. The red Brick thing in the upper right of the picture is a gun mount. Shots were never fired from this fort.
Kris would like to me state that he doesn't have Man Boobs. He was stanging into the wind. I said it wasn't an issue - he's vain.
I just thought a picure downthe arches would be cool. This is on the 2nd floor in would would have been the infirmary.
This is ouer tour group. THe tour of the fort took WAY to long. In my opinion, I wanted to bird watch and snorkel. That is Kris in the  foreground wearing a blue shirt.
The beach before it was taken over by tourists.
Here is the ocean. Isn't it beautiful?
The weird little wall is the moat wall. Yes there was a moat built around an island.. It was supposed to afford more security and a way to "flush" the toilets... tide goes out so does the poo.
The last view as we left the island.
On the way home the wind was p and the sea was really choppy.  It was fun!
And Kris and I saw a sea turtle. It was so cute!
