| Kingdom Come Overview: A painted (not drawn) Comic that goes well into the DC future. Superman has retired. Batman is old an uses robotic Bats to clean up Gotham. But as the younger generations of superheroes become increasingly more intense, someone must intervene. It is a catch 22. Violence begets violence until all the superheroes are together in one big fight. The citizens of Earth tire of their violent ways and attempt to erradicate all superheroes once and for all. Critique: Let's Start with the best. First, the art is fantastic. The glimpse of the bleak future is interesting and creative. The cast of characters is phenominal. But I would be remiss to not mention the story. Although it is a graphic novel, the story is good enough to be a straight up novel. It's social commentary about violence is deep, as is it's thought provoking plot. Are the superheroes saving the world or themselves? Who is right--Superman or Batman? Or should they all just disappear? This is marvelously written. Marvel has their version of a painted comic, but DC (as usual) blows them away. A+ |
| The Crisis on Infinate Earths Overview: This is an 80's Mini-series of the DC Universe. The concept is that the universe is made up of several (infinite) universes, all of which are quite similar. Together they make the Multi-verse. The heroes of the infinite Earths are confronted with a new foe: the Antimonitor. The Monitor gives them a real run for the money. The universe is saved, but at what price? Critique: WOW! The artwork and writing are classic in this one. First off, the concept is overwhelmingly exciting. Reading a comic with two versions of Superman, for example, is intriguing. It is neat to see thier alternate universes and being able to accept them at the same time. In this series we see hero and villian team together to destroy a common enemy. Two MAJOR heroes do die before it is all said and done with. I think this was DCs way to clean house. Marvel launched Secret Wars at the same time. I see it more as a ratings ploy. This is by far superior. The best part is seeing the minor superheroes that we normally only see in a periodic issue. Instead we get to see them often and they use their powers to the fullest potential. The final Crisis issue is one of my all-time favorite comics. A |
