| A few things for those going to Germany: Do you have your passport???? If not, get one ASAP!!! Contact your partner about possible currency exchanges. |
| A German is staying at your house! What should you do now?? 1. Don't panic! This should be fun and educational for every one in the family. 2. Make room! I do request that your German have a BED to sleep on for their trip. Sharing a room may need to be possible, and might be advantageous. If someone needs to sleep on the couch, please make that person an American!! 3. Buy a welcome gift. This does not have to be large or expensive. It should be something that is typically "Sidney" or "Ohio" or American. A farewell gift is customary as well. 4. Make a sign to welcome your German. It should have his/her name on it and it should be colorful. Bring your sign with you to the airport. This will let them know who to look for. 5. We will caravan to the Airport together on March 19. Meet in the Cafeteria Lobby of SHS. This is a late night. I will work with Mr. Johnson to allow your son/daughter to miss the following morning as an excused absence, as if it were a field trip. 6. Think of this as an addition to your family. You will get to know and love your German (I hope). Please treat them as one of your own. They are expceted to follow the same rules as anyone else in the family. If you have problems with your German, feel free to contact me. Part of the experience is for them to see an American family in everyday life. You should not feel pressured to entertain them every day. They will have plenty to do. 7. Do not hesitate to do things with your German. Go on day trips or vacations if you want. There are no restrictions. if you leave the country, be sure to bring their passport. 8. The Germans may need to exchange money when they get to the US. Be prepared to go to the bank! 9. Your German should be able to speak decent English. Most have had English longer than your son/daughter has had German. 10. The Germans are insured in case of any accidents. Please fill out the given form and send it to Roland Winzer. 11. Germans are to obey all laws in the USA. This includes drinking laws and driving laws. DO NOT LET GERMANS DRIVE!!! 12. Contact your German ASAP!!!! The more you get to know them now, the more comfortable you will all be when they get here! 13. Have some fun, learn some German!!!! |
