Goku:

Species: Saiyan�

Goku is one of the main characters in Dragonball Z/GT. Goku fights for the good of others. We see him grow from a young boy with an unusual monkey-like tale to a full grown Saiyan warrior. Goku is a second class Saiyan, a rank that is not very high in Saiyan society. One person that did not like Goku (if he did, he sure didn't show it) was Vegeta. Vegeta dislikes Goku for being stronger than him, the prince of the Saiyans. But by the end of the series, he and Vegeta become good friends, even if Vegeta still has a bad attitude towards him. Some of Goku's greatest accomplishments include defeating Piccolo Daimaoh, beating the snot out of Freeza, and smashing Majin Buu. He was the first to become a Super Saiyan, and go Super Saiyan 3. By the end of the show, he is a fully grown man, not the little boy that he once was. But he is still loving, friendly, and most of all, forgiving. Certainly all the qualities needed to be an excellent fighter.

Gohan:

Species: Saiyan\Human

Planet: Earth

Super Saiyan level: 1,2,ultimate,ultimate 2, mystic saiyan

Special techniques: Masenko, Kamehameha, Electric Kamehameha (Chou Kamehameha), Legendary Z sword.

Goku and Chichi's first son, Gohan shows phenomenal power at a very young age. The key to his strength is anger; whenever he gets extremely angry, Gohan unleashes all the power within him, surpassing even his father at times. When he was only five years old, he was trained by Piccolo for an entire year, who had seen the great promise in Gohan's strength during the fight with Raditz. During that year, Piccolo and Gohan form a unique bond, making Piccolo a sort of second father to him. Later in the Vegeta Saga, Piccolo even sacrifices his life to save his Gohan's. In the Freeza saga he really shows his true power for the first time when Freeza sticks his horns into Krillyn, Gohan gets so pissed that Vegeta gets scared! As he grows older, he learns to become a Super Saiyan at about the age of 12, and because he becomes enraged during the fight with Cell, he is the first to surpass the Super Saiyan level (SSJ2). Later in the series he unlocks the legendary Z sword and becomes the strongest fighter in the universe 'the legendary Mystic saiyan!' Seven years afterward, Gohan enrolls at Orange Star High School where he meets his wife, Videl. Gohan and Videl have a daughter named Pan at the end of DBZ who goes on a journey with Goku in DBGT to find the blackstar Dragonballs.

Vegeta:

Species: Saiyan

Planet: Vegeta (His name is the same as the planet)

Super Saiyan level: 1, ultimate,2,4

Special techniques: Gallit gun, Final Flash, Big Bang Attack

The father of Trunks and the husband of Bulma, Vageta shows a tough front but is full of pride. At first he is a villain, but like most villains in Dragon Ball, he is quick to join the "good" side. But even after Vegeta joins up with the Z fighters, he is still very reserved and won't accept pity. He doesn't talk to anyone much, and utterly despises Goku. Vageta can't stand him because of the simple fact that Goku is stronger than him. So, Vageta is constantly trying to be better, but never truely succeeds. He is the third (if you count Trunks) person to become a Super Saiyan, and one of only two to achieve Super Saiyan 4. You might be asking, "If Vageta's heart isn't pure, how did he become a Super Saiyan?" The answer to that is simple: Vageta does have a pure heart... it's just pure evil. He finally becomes truely good in the Majin Buu saga where we get to see a side of him that was once thought to be non-existent. He swallows his pride in a tough situation and acknowledges that Goku is stronger than him. Vageta might seem hard and cold on the outside... but, well, I guess he's that way on the inside too. But every series needs a badass, doesn't it?

Future Trunks:

Species: Saiyan\Human

Planet: Earth

Super Saiyan level: 1, ultimate (He obviously reaches higher levels that we don't know about because he travels back to the future)

Special Techniques: Aime Swatsa, Final Flash, Ultra Ball

Trunks is a super saiyan from the future. He is the son of Vegita and Bulma. He warns Goku of the androids who will come in three years and kill them all but Gohan. He also tells Goku about the heart virus he is going to get and gives him some medicine that will allow him to live. Trunks is a super saiyan from the future. He carries a sword and has purple hair with a purple jacket. He has a sword with a cover on his back, and he used it in the fight against Frieza. He can control when he wants to become a Super Saiyan just as Goku and Gohan. When he came to earth from the future to warn Goku of the Androids, he ended up fighting Frieza and King Cold, killing them both with ease. King Cold even had his sword, but was still creamed by Trunks. He is a very kind hearted teenager, who also tells that in the future Gohan will be his master of the martial arts. Do not under estimate him because of his conscience, but he does make some mistakes do to inexperience when he fights, like revealing his strongest attack to the Androids, and then not bluffing about it when they blocked it, but he actually says out load how that was his strongest attack and they blocked it. But other than that he is a great fighter, few can ever equal his strength. When he fights Cell he even surpasses his father and Goku and is the first to turn Ultimate saiyan.

Piccolo:

Species: Namekian

Planet: Namek

Super Namek level: 1

Special Techniques: Rapid Fire, Demon Ray, Split Form, Masenko

The evil half of Kami, Piccolo really isn't all that bad. At first he is extremely evil, wanting to take over or destroy the world. He attempted to kill Goku on a number of occasions, each time being defeated, and each time vowing to get his revenge. But something, or maybe someone, changed that. Because of Gohan (who had been training with Piccolo for a year), Piccolo learned to love, and almost completely abolished his evil. Piccolo becomes one of the "Z Fighters" during the fight with Vegeta, and protects Gohan with his life. He fuses with Nail during the Android saga in order to defeat Freeza, and stays fused for the rest of the series. Also, when Androids #16, #17, and #18 come to kill Goku, Piccolo fuses back with Kami in order to defeat them. Piccolo maintains a substantial role throughout all three series, and is an important asset to the show.

Krillyn:

Species: Human

Planet: Earth

Super Human level: 1

Special Techniques: Energy Disc, Solar Flare, Split Form, Kamehameha

Constantly ruled out as a weakling because of his short height, Krillyn is the second strongest Earthling behind Tien. Originally he is from the Orinji Temple, a buddhist sect, where he was serving as a monk. That's why he sports six dots on his forehead and goes bald by choice. Krillyn leaves the temple because his superiors are always giving him beatings, and goes on to train under Master Roshi with his best friend, Goku. During the Android Saga, he forms a crush on Number 18 after she kisses him on the cheek. The two wed and have a little girl named Marron. He grows his hair out after his wife asks him to, and settles down to spend time with his family. I would consider Krillyn as the comic relief in Dragon Ball because the worst is always happening to him and he's not too smooth with the ladies.

Tien:

Species: Human

Planet: Earth

Super Human level: 1

Special Techniques: Split Form, Tri Attack, Solar Flare, Split Kikoho

Tien is a human with a third eye. He is always with chautzu. When chautzu is killed he launches a huge attack and almost kills Napa, the saiyan. Tien has the ability to split into Four illusions of himself and they all shoot a beam. Tien is a very close friend of Chautzu, Im not sure why, maybe he is his bodyguard, I don't know, Tien never really gets all that strong until very late in the story, and by then all the Saiyans have unbeleivable powers so it doesn't matter. Tien was in the mountains with Chaozu when they sinced the two enormous powers coming towards earth, and immediately prepared himself to do battle to defend the earth, his home now.

Chibi(kid) Trunks:

Species: Saiyan/Human

Planet: Earth

Super Saiyan Level: 1,2

Special Techniques: Aime Swatsa, Final Flash, Ultra Ball

The Trunks of the normal Dragon Ball timeline, he is best friends with Goku's son, Goten. Trunks and Goten do just about everything together, from training to playing. When he is with Goten, the two tend to get into a lot of trouble. He's always planning some kind of scheme, and convinces Goten to go along with his plans. As the son of Vegeta, he has somewhat of a bad attitude, but not to the extent of his father. He is usually playful and kind. At the age of 8 he was able to become a Super Saiyan, making him the second youngest character to achieve the level. He and Goten can fuse (become one person)together to become Gotenks, who takes Trunks cockiness and multiplies it about five times. At the beginning of DBGT, he assists Goku in finding the black star Dragon Balls that are scattered throughout space.
