The tenth-grade English II is going to take a three-day journey into Colonial New England.  Let’s Go!

Objectives:
· Students will be responsible for selecting a text (ex. a sermon, speech, journal entry, biography, court document, narrative, short story, OR poem) that reveals the struggles and/or beliefs of the Native Americans, Pilgrims, or “Witches” that lived during the Colonial Era using the internet links provided.  
· Students must determine the point-of-view of the writer
· Students must summarize in their own words the meaning of the text
· Students must determine what perspective the writer identifies  (“Pilgrims, Natives, Witches”) based on the content of the text.
· Students must take a virtual tour and determine how historical documents can be used in writing creative works

Directions:
Day 1
1. Search through the links and find a sermon, speech, journal entry, biography, court testimony, narrative, short story, or poem that was written by or about Native Americans, Pilgrims, or "Witches".  Select a text that you feel reflects the beliefs and/or struggles of the groups mentioned above.
2. After selecting the text answer the ten “Post-Reading Questions,” which will be handed-out in class
Day 2
1. Take the Virtual Salem Trial Tour.
2. How can historical documents be used to write creative works?
3. Where you guilty or innocent?
4. Answer the ten “Tour questions”
Assessment:
Day 3
   1. Select a creative assignment from the list that will be handed out  at the beginning of class.

Standards- 3.1 (A,E,G,H)
3.2 (A,B,D), 3.5 (A-C)
