Moon Trent calls it quits at the Fillmore

San Francisco singer Moon Trent announced his plans recently to relocate to Nottingham, England this summer to run his indie label timmi-kat ReCoRDS in the U.K. Started in 1991 by Moon Trent and David Cole, timmi-kat.com has released music from Red House Painters and Chumbawamba plus a host of U.S. indie-bands in years past, and see England as the next step towards international acclaim. The label names the high cost of living and apathy towards the San Francisco music scene as-of-late their deciding factors for the move.

Moon Trent, previously singer for S.F. duo Pale, (who had a minor radio hit in 1993) and current singer for gay-band Brown-Star, sets to release his first solo record in the form of a re-working of a Dolly Parton hit Hard Candy Christmas later this year and is currently on holiday in Nottingham scouting local producers and re-mixers for future collaborations. He also has the crazy notion of recording a new single with 80s drag fatale Marilyn. Ive always loved his gaflarba, his twist, explains Trent, inexplicably.

Former radio presenter since age 15, outspoken Trent received national attention in 1993 by blasting fellow gay pop star Boy George in the pages of the Advocate. Trent, also a self-proclaimed gay activist, responded to comments made by Boy that all gays choose their sexuality as opposed to being born gay. Trent has appeared on a number of television programs; and, Trent can be seen most recently in re-runs of The Howard Stern Show, on which he has appeared twice.

The former video and album cover model (Pansy Division), Trent once sang onstage with favorites Roddy Frame and Phranc. He will relocate to Nottingham with partner of ten years David Cole to live near an un-named woman friend he met through a student pen-pal program over 16 years ago. Brown-Star, headliners at last years Gay Pride Festival, say farewell to their singer and manager at their next gig June 22 where they perform upstairs at the prestigious Fillmore Auditorium for the first and perhaps last time.
