#7 MUSICAL TERMS
1. Fine - Italian - The End of a piece of music
2. First - The highest voice of the same class. (i.e. First
Soprano, First Alto, etc.)
3. Flat – b - The accidental that lowers a pitch 1 half step.
Flat – adjective – A pitch that is too low.
4. Flebile - Italian - Tearful, mournful
5. Forte - Dynamic term for loud
6. Fortissimo - Extremely loud
7. Forzando - Italian - With force, energy; means that the
note is to be strongly accented; usually fz
8. French Overture - A type of overture developed in France
in the 18th century, consisting of 3 sections: 1st is slow in tempo, 2nd is
rather quick, 3rd is slow again.
9. Fret - One of the narrow ridges of wood, metal or ivory
crossing the fingerboard of a guitar, mandolin, etc. on which the strings are
'stopped'.
10. Freudig - German - Joyously
11. Frohlich - German - Joyously
12. Frottola - Italian - A type of choral madrigal popular
in Italy in the 16th century.
13. Fruhlingslied - German - Spring song.
14. Fugue - A theme proposed by one part being taken up
successively by all participating parts, thus bringing each part into prominence
- The other parts will sing the fugue, tthen a countermelody
15. Funebre - French - Funereal, mournful, dirge-like
