MUSICAL TERMS - Ca - Co

Canzone - An Italian folksong or a part song in the madrigal style.

Cantor - The leading singer in German, Protestant church services or in Jewish
synagogues.

Capo (Da Capo) - Italian word for Beginning
- Da Capo means take it from the beginning

Carol - To sing joyously. A joyous Christmas song of praise

Chamber Music - Vocal or instrumental music suitable for performance in a room
or small hall; especially quartets and similar concerted pieces for solo
instruments

Chanson - French Art Song

Chant - a) Anglican Chant - a short sacred song with no real rhythm but sung in
harmony. The rhythm is based on how you would say the text.
b)Gregorian Chant - Sacred text set to one line of music.

Chanty - A unison song sung by workmen in time with their motions. Also spelled
Shanty

Chest voice - The lower register of the voice in which vibrations are felt more
in the chest - or
speaking
voice

Chorale - A hymn tune of the German Protestant church, Bach wrote a lot of them.

Chord - A harmony of usually 3 notes (but could be 2) or more, in a series of
thirds.

Chromatic Scale - Going up or down the scale by all half steps.

Claque - Hired groups of people paid to applaud an opera singer or some other
performer.

Classical Music - European music from about 1770 - 1830. But also, any serious
music
15.
Coda - Italian for 'tail'. It means the end or tag on a piece of music.
