Turkey Anyone??
November seems to be the perfect time to talk about turkeys. This unit is based on the book A Turkey For Thanksgiving by  Eve Bunting.
I have listed some of the activities that were used as we enjoyed this wonderful book.
After reading the book we used the characers to sequence the order they appeared in the story as Mr. Moose went to find a turkey. These came from Teachers Helper. They also have other sheets that go along with the story.
After reading the book, we discussed why the turkey was hiding from Mr. Moose and his friends. I asked them to think about what it would be like to be a turkey during Thanksgiving. The students then brainstormed a list of food that they would want people to eat if they were a turkey. (Some answers included pizza, pie,  cake, hamburgers, etc). They then colored their turkey and filled in the speech bubble with their choice.
Math Activities
During math the students used tangram pieces and pattern blocks to fill in the turkey outlines.

During centers the students looked at the number on the turkeys belly and matched that correct amount of feathers to the turkey. (photo coming soon)
Science Activities
The students made a book with different turkey facts.
