Detour

I just saw Detour for the first time last night, and here are some defenses for that ep~

~A lot of shippers would say that M&S happy, *friendly* behavior in Detour meant they were flirting because they are in love :-P Unfortunately for them, that is not the case imo. On a normal basis, M&S deal with a lot of stress which prevents them from having fun and enjoying themselves in each others presence. So, once they got away from the stress of their lives in Florida, they finally got the chance to relax and enjoy themselves. The "flirting" was only them enjoying the rare chance of having fun....and enjoying their time together as friends.

~When Scully brought the wine and cheese into Mulder's hotel room and talked about how they weren't supposed to be together, I thought it was a sweet gesture which showed an interesting, new side of Scully. Because of their "vacation", she finally allowed herself to let herself go around Mulder and enjoy herself in his company. She didn't do it to get drunk and sleep with Mulder. However, Mulder didn't seem to realize the significance of the "wine and cheese date", because he mostly talked about the case, then left! This shows that he really can be "obsessed with his work" (as even Scully once said), so a relationship between them really wouldn't work out. Their quest would become much more important to Mulder (as it always has been), and if they did get together, the relationship would end quickly.

That's all I have, for now....I have heard shippers talking about what a big deal it was for Scully to pack Mulder's clothes in the end, but I really didn't think it was that amazing....so I didn't add the defense I wrote for that scene.
