Check to make sure that your essay meets all of the following criteria:


The writer provides an accurate, concise summary of the main idea and supporting points of the passage

The writer clearly acknowledges the author of the passage and the text from which the passage has been excerpted

The summary is in the writer�s own words with minimal, appropriate quoting, if any. 

The introduction contains an explicitly stated thesis related to the passage. 

The essay is well organized with supporting points, discussion, examples and details.

The essay is well focused, and there is a clear relationship between the presentation of the details and examples and the expressed thesis.

There is a clearly discernible beginning, middle, and end, with appropriate transitions

There are appropriate transitions between ideas.

The vocabulary is well suited to the topic. 

The sentences are well formed and varied.

The grammar, punctuation, mechanics, and spelling are nearly perfect.
