Week l: Diagnostic essay.  Introduction to course/review of policy and outline. 

Week 2: Read �The Tyranny of Abercrappie� on p. 89 in The Contemporary Reader. Quiz on reading. Analysis of introduction, body, and conclusion.  Discuss summary writing and write a group summary of a brief article.  Write in-class student summary of a brief article. Out of class written assignment. 

Week 3: Read �An Image to Heal� on p. 37 in The Contemporary Reader.  Quiz on reading.  Discuss reader based essay structure, including summary.  Write essay in and out of class, using reader-based structure.
 
Week 4: Read �Never Too Buff� on p. 43 in The Contemporary Reader.  Quiz on reading.  Begin grammar workshop, consisting of diagnostics and prevention of major errors, such as run on sentences, fragments, apostrophe, and other usage problems.  Grammar quiz.

Week 5: Finish grammar workshop.  Grammar quiz.   Write essay in and out of class.

Week 6: Read �My Hips, My Cadera� on p. 40 in The Contemporary Reader.  Quiz on reading.  Discuss proofreading tips and do proofreading exercises.

Week 7: Mid term exam, consisting of in class essay.

Week 8: Read �Hold that Nose� on p. 52 in The Contemporary Reader. Quiz on reading.  Review of writing modes, including reader based writing.  Read and discuss English 101 Exit Exam Study Packet. (

Week 9: Read �The Bald Individualist� on p. 56 in The Contemporary Reader.  Quiz on reading.  Discuss editing and revision process. Revise diagnostic essay.

Week 10: Read �Believers in Search of Piercing Insight� on p. 59 in The Contemporary Reader.  Quiz on reading.  Grammar workshop.  Write out of class reader-based essay.

Week 11: Read �I Don�t Like What You�re Wearing� on p. 62 in The Contemporary Reader.  Quiz on reading.  Write in class reader-based essay.

Week 12: Write in class reader-based essay.

Week 13:  Review exit exam guidelines and grammar.  Write in-class Practice Exit Exam. Grammar quiz.   

Week 14: Review grammar. Write in-class Practice Exit Exam. Grammar quiz.   

Week 15: Exit Exam
