Medieval 411: A Parent's Guide to the Festival

Who? 7th graders are required to attend. It is a part of their English grade. Parents and siblings are invited and highly encouraged to come. The cost is $3 per person, children 12 and under admitted free. Anyone who is performing in the festival is admitted free.

When? June 3rd from 6-9PM. We will start the festival in the Windsor Jr. High cafeteria and will end on the green in the back parking lot.

What? Students must come in medieval costume and must prepare and bring a medieval dish to the festival (keep reading for details).

Costumes: Everyone is urged to come in costume, but it is not required unless you are a seventh grader. All seventh graders will be in costume. Seventh graders may: a) buy a costume (there are various places online that sell them. I will provide a list of those sites in the Medieval 411 index of my website: http://www.geocities.com/mscognato/medieval/medievalindex.html) b) make a costume (see Ms. Cognato and Mrs. Rohloff to get measured). Students may make their own costumes at home or work on them at school with a teacher.

Food: Seventh graders are required to bring at least one medieval dish (soup, appetizer, drink, entree, dessert) for the banquet portion of the festival. Gryffindor is currently compiling a cookbook of medieval recipies that will be photocopied and delivered to each 7th grader on Monday, May 23rd. Check in with your seventh grader and look through the cookbook together to find 3 things that you would like to make. Then, each seventh grader should hand in a piece of paper with their top 3 choices on it and I will collect them and sign each student up for a dish (which they will write down in their assignment book). I will also email the food sign-up list to parents if you include your email address on the May newsletter. If you would like to make more than one dish, please indicate that on the worksheet that will come with the cookbook.

Parent Help: If you can sew, we need you!
There will be a sewing party on Thursday, May 26th and Friday, May 27th from 2:20 - 6:30PM. If you have the time and can sew, please come. Also, if you have a sewing machine, please bring it with you if possible. Material & patterns will be provided by the school, but if you have any material that you dont want or need, please bring it. Babysitting will be provided by responsible Middle School students for parents with young children. If you can only come for one hour, or even half an hour, that is more than ok! We need all the help that we can get!

WANTED:
extra fabric
ribbons and glitzy trimming
medieval costumes
crowns/tiaras
Al Capone (just kidding)
tin foil
FAKE swords

If you have any of the following items, please have your student bring them in. Costumes, crowns & fake swords will be returned. The other items will not.
