Decisions, Decisions

(Note: Italics is Angela’s thoughts)

Angela just sat dumbstruck as the phone dangled carelessly from her hand.

It can’t be, the past doesn’t really come back to haunt you….does it?

She listened again, but this time she heard a female voice….”Angela….hello?”

“Sorry, I zoned out there for a moment” said Angela with relief

I guess it doesn’t

“Angela,” said the voice on the other end. “You don’t recognize the voice do you? Well it has been 10 years....”

“I’m sorry” confessed Angela “I don’t….”

“It’s Sharon” and with that ending syllable Angela screamed “Oh my God, Sharon!” she yelled “how, what, when…..”

“Calm down” said the voice on the other end and laughed “I’ve missed you too.” She paused “Now to you array of questions, We’re having a 10 year reunion at Liberty and I’m in charge of it and since I didn’t know your mailing or email address and I had to beg your mom to get your phone number, I decided to call and invite you.”

Here comes that haunting again

Angela sighed “I don’t really know Sharon, I mean I didn’t really leave on such a good note and to come back….”

“Look, Angela, I know why you left, Rayanne sorta let it slip, but I understand and I’m not here to judge. I know that there’s skeletons in the closet out here you don’t want to revisit, but I think you should put the past behind you and bury the skeletons once and for all.” She took a breath “And besides, when’s the last time I saw one of my oldest friends?”

Angela smiled “I’ll think about it ok? Give me your number and I’ll get back to you tomorrow.”

“Ok, um you can just call my mom, she’s helping me out and she said she’d take any phone RSVP’s. Look I gotta go I got another call to make to the cater so I’ll hopefully see ya. If you decide to come, it’s the last weekend in June, on the Friday. Bye Angela.”

“Bye”

Decisions, Decisions

Angela got up and went to work more on her book.

Brian’s Office, Boston

Brian sat at his law office with Strantford and Krakow. A firm he had been a partner in since himself and college friend Ryan Strantford had started there own firm, right out of Harvard. He glanced at his computer screen. The date book was up and in bold letters he had typed RSVP SHARON ON REUNION….

His hand lay over the phone, Should he or shouldn’t he….

“Mr. Krakow” said Sherry, his secretary “A Sharon called she said she needs that RSVP soon.”

“Sherry, he said “Tell her…”

Brian thought for a moment he hadn’t been home much since high school ended, perhaps it was time to put an end to the fear, what were the chances of Angela showing up….What where the chances?

“Tell her I’ll be there” he smiled and turned his chair to look out the window.

Jordan’s Apartment, Three Rivers

Jordan sat on his couch; he had been working the night shift at club, “Residue”, which he named after his old high school band, for two nights. Even, when he wasn’t working he wasn’t really sleeping….he was thinking about….Angela.

Sharon had told him, that Angela had been invited to the reunion, but she didn’t know if she was coming and maybe wouldn’t since, well since The Letter.

He slammed his fist down, God, how could he have been so stupid. He needed to show her how much he did and still does love her, but what were the chances of her being there; she hadn’t been home in 10 years….

“I should go anyway” he told himself “Even if I didn’t really go to school when I went to school” he smirked and looked up Sharon’s mom’s number.

Camille Cherski’s house, Three Rivers

“So, Sharon” said Rayanne “Who’s all coming?”

”Well,” said
Sharon “As far as I know, everyone, including Angela.”

“Even Brian and Jordan?” she asked curiously.

“Yep”

“Boy, this is gonna be one hell of a reunion….I gotta go tell Rickie”

Part 3 is going to be called “Home Is Where The Heart Is”
