The weekend was full of tough matches, beginning with a repeat of last year's championship game against the Parkville Predators. The Dragons advanced to defeat the SAC United Premier in the championship game. It was a tough game with both teams controlling the game at different times. The game went into overtime with a 0-0 tie and then into a penalty shootout. SAC missed their shots with a save by Dragons keeper Bryan Heffner. Heffner managed to have a clean score sheet the entire tournament and had four penalty kicks against him. The Dragons scored their first three penalty shots taken by Peter Wawrzusin, Mike Buse and Lucas Szabo; thus winning the championship for the second consecutive time. 5/13/02 U12 MSC DRAGONS TO SEMIFINALS IN MD STATE CUP
The U12 MSC Dragons, MD State Futsal Champs coached by Renzo Bejarano, represented the state of Maryland in an intense Futsal Regional Tournament this weekend.  All the Region 1 States sent their State Champions to participate.  The Dragons faced teams from: NY, NJ, VA, PA, and MA. The tournament was very competitive; ending with a 3-way tie in the A Group.  The Dragons advanced to the semifinals in a 2nd level tie-breaker based on goal differential.  They faced the other half of the MSC Dragons team who had also qualified as a third place MD State representative and finished 2nd in Group B at this tournament.   Unfortunately only one team can advance, so the MD State Champs took it to their teammates with a 6-1 final score.  The Dragons entered the finals with a +15 goal differential.  They had scored 26 goals and allowed only 11.  The final match was a face off between the MD State Cup Champions and the VA State Champions, VYSA Cougars.  The Cougars took an early lead in the first half of 3-0.  Going into the second half, the Dragons seemed determined to level the score.  Early in the second half, Peter Wawrzusin received a corner kick pass and aimed a beautiful header away from the goalie's reach to find the back of the net.  Minutes later,  Michael Buse created a break-away with two defenders on his back and was able to beat the goalie's slide tackle by chipping the ball over his leg and making the score 3-2.  The Dragons effort and pressure was intense, but not enough to overcome a 3 point deficit in this tournament.  The Dragons played an outstanding tournament and earned a trip to Las Vegas as a finalist representing Region 1 in the National Futsal Championship; along with this year's U12 Champion's, VYSA Cougars.  Members of the finalist MSC Dragons' team include: Draymond Washington, Michael Buse, Corey Kaufmann, Peter Wawrzusin, Ben Hanson, Zach Kabelac, Juan Carlos O'leary, Omar Zerbo and Jeff Chreky.  The MSC Dragons are gearing up for their outdoor season in NCSL D2 and their first appearance at the MD State Championship for outdoor soccer.
3/04/02 U12 MSC DRAGONS - FINALIST IN REGION 1 FUTSAL CUP
The U12 MSC Dragons, coached by Julio Zarate and Renzo Bejarano, achieved their highest goal this weekend- The title of " MD State Champions."  This is the most prestigious title that MSYSA (Maryland State Youth Soccer Association) offers their teams at each age group. The Dragons' road to the State Championship was not easy having faced top teams from all around Maryland.  In the round robin stage, they overcame the PSC Young Guns (6-0), POT Cougars (3-0), and the FRED Excel (2-0).  In the semifinals they faced a top ranked team in the state - BFC United.  The game was very close, going into a full 20 minute overtime.  The Dragons managed to score in the second half of the overtime.  Will Vernigor found the back of the net early in the second half and Lucas Szabo followed with a solid shot that beat the keeper's reach.  BFC United managed to score the only goal against the Dragons in the entire tournament, thus making the game very exciting.  The final score was 2 -1 and the Dragons advanced to the finals where they faced another tough team - TAPK Raptors.   The Raptors entered the finals with 13 goals for and 0 against.  The Dragons entered with 13 goals for and one against.  The final game was sealed to be a "Battle of the Titans".  Both teams came ready to play and the game was very exciting throughout.  They both had scoring opportunities, but the Dragons were able to capitalize on theirs.  In the 10th minute of the second half, Will Vernigor, once again beat the keeper to give the Dragons the lead they needed to become the 2002 Maryland State Champions and advance to Regionals in Niagara Falls, NY on June 28th.  The Dragons are very excited to represent Maryland in this prestigious tournament.

The MSC Dragons currently hold the 2002 MD State Futsal Cup title as well as the 2002 MD State Cup title.  They are undefeated in their NCSL league having only allowed 1 goal all season and tallied 18 goals for, with one game left.
