| You Know You've Been in Band Too Long When... |
| - You've had a duct tape experience - Your earliest memories are of the chromatic scale - Fun is playing "Flight of the Bumblebee" on a Tuba - The last book you read was entitled "101 Concertos for Piccalos" - You'd rather go to a symphony than a party - every story begins with, "this one time at band camp..." - you do calculas in 3/4 time and remember to subdivide the eighth notes. - you have spent more time in the band room than in your own room. - you keep a pillow and blanket in your band locker, just in case. - you automatically brush the seat off when you sit down. - your little brother can hum your marching show. - when you don't go one day without seeing another band nerd. - your watch is set to the clock in the band room. - you enjoy riding school buses for long periods of time. - you only go out with other band members. - you meet band members from another school and ask to pet their plumes. - when you have a neckstrap tan-line that is visible in your homecoming pictures. - when you have band parties. - when you know the guy who takes pictures of your band. - when you know the order of the pep band folders. - you keep half of your clothes in your band locker. - you compliment other bands on their uniforms. - when you can beat "the game." - when your locker is in the band hall. - you never want to go to Montana again, but you do anyway, because you like band trips. - you have invented a marching band board game. - you've run over a marching judge. - when you hate the line "..And this one time.. and band camp..." - when you don't know what it is like to go to a football game with out your instrument. - when oboe players are attractive. - you know your school's fight song by heart, the music, not the words - when percussionists are no longer strange or scary to you. - when your band is better than the football team. - when your parents come to the football games to hear the band play, not watch football. - when you can name all of the notes in an arpegiated chromatic scale on the tuba. - when yuor 16th birthday party consists of your closest band nerd friends reminicsing over old remember the time in band/at that band concert/on that band trip... - when you go to basketball games purely for the fun of playing pep band music. - when your pep band wins awards at state basketball tournaments. - your band has won twenty-one awards in one competition. - you are not afraid to change into your concert uniform next to a highway. - you are proud to be a band nerd - you know or have ever played the piccolo part to the Stars and Stripes Forever - you have ever used the excuse, "sorry I have band that night." - you spend more than 8 hours at school during marching season. - when your sockline fools people into thinking you are actually wearing socks. - your hobbies are: band - you are proud of your band letter on your letter jacket. - your band letter is the only letter on your letter jacket. - you know the guys at the music store by name. - you see your director more often than any member of your family. - you refer to inter-section conflicts as sibling rivalry. - you come home right after school and your parents wonder why you are home so early. - you know the difference between a sousaphone and a tuba and the difference between a euphonium and a baritone. - you've gone to every football and basketball game and never had to pay - you go to the Band Field to watch football games - you have marched for more than one season - you subdivide while talking - you've been hit by a colorgaurd flag more than once. - you're not grossed out by puddles of spit all over the ground. - you go home to find drill markers in your pockets - you make up instruments such as a piccalet. - you watch parades on tv to see if they are in step. - you have been in a nationally televised parade. - you have been in math class and realized your tuner was still in your pocket from band the period before. - when - you can relate to more than half of the above list. - |
