The Multiple Sclerosis Awareness project was started by the Rotary club of Gisborne Victoria, Australia 3 years ago and is now an approved District 9800 project.

Aim to elevate to multi district, national and international status.
We want to help find a cure for MS.
The Multiple Sclerosis Committee involved with:
District 9800: 8 x Rotary Clubs
District 9790: RC of Numurkah
District 9920:RC of Manukau , New Zealand,
District 4830: RC of Rafaela &Buenos Aires Argentina
District 2401 :RC of Riga Ridzene, Latvia
District 5020: RC of Clover Park, USA
many other clubs have helped or pledged support in the future

Committee actions in progress:
Contribution to meeting with MS investigators November 24, 2000 at Walter Eliza Hall Institute of Research. On progress in MS Research. The session was devoted to "MS research into the new millennium: fostering collaborative interactions" This may pave the way to a "think tank" in the future.
The District 9800 MS Awareness Committee is seed funding a substantial National MS longitudinal study data base project with opportunities to involve more Rotary Clubs.
Partnering with RC of Manakau, NZ to facilitate vocation exchange between MSV and MS Society Auckland, NZ.
Need to identify Rotary Clubs located near to each Multiple Sclerosis society established in 38 countries.
Opportunities for international, vocation, partnering & fellowship avenues of service.
District 9800 Australia Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Committee Achievements to date:
Promoted Multiple Sclerosis Awareness at 2000 RI convention in Buenos Aires and the 2001 RI convention in San Antonio.
Many Rotary Clubs globally expressed interest to become involved eg, Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Germany, Brazil, etc (200 contacts to follow up).
Raised $A77,000 (Rotary MS account to date).
Produced two MS Awareness videos
Completed pilot Vocation Specific Exchange between MS Societies of Victoria Australia and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Established link between RC of Gisborne in District 9800 Australia, RC of Manukau in District 9920, New Zealand, RC of Rafaela in District 4830 Argentina.
RC of Wyndham sent container of mobility aids to MS Society of Buenos Aires.
RC of Essendon North raised $1,750 for the Longitudinal Study at a combined club dinner. Peter Bland, who had been to both the Antarctic and Arctic on Polar expeditions and in-between undergone open-heart sugery, spoke of his adventures

next Rotary national project. Contacts were made at the San Antonio convention with Tasmania, NSW and Queensland.
