Owl Pal
PROJECT PROFILE

This project will allow students to better understand owls. Students will gain knowledge into the food chain and the part the owl plays in it.  In addition the study will aide students in learning about an owl's anatomy, its habitat, and the food it consumes through the study of owl pellets. Students will use classroom lessons along with real time owl cams to observe the incubation of the egg through the fledgling's departure from the nest.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

Once the project is complete the students will be able to:
A. observe and record the information gained throughout the project
B. identify types of bones and categorize them
C. describe a food chain and the role of the owl in that food chain
D. develop mathematical skills including but not limited to graphing, measuring, and problem solving

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT

There are four available on-line computers grouped together in the classroom.  Behavior management is accomplished through an assertive discipline plan of rewards and consequences. Each computer will be used by cooperative groups of three students.  Each student will have a job to accomplish.  One will be on line while the others read directions from the lesson book.  Once the primary student is finished they will switch and repeat the procedure.  An Internet Safety Plan is in-place school-wide.  Rules for computer use are posted next to each computer.
