** July 13, 2003 ~ Spending time shopping with the kids after being at Queenie's**

.
...So, after play rehearsal they were like "Miss Amy, do you want to go shopping?: I did...since I hadn't gone the day before...so I went with Queenie, Carey, Marco, Yuki, and I think one more girl and we went to Mong Kok (sp?), this huge shopping mall and headed out to find a bag. The first thing the girls did when we go there is they asked me if I wanted to pierce my ears a second time with them. So I did!! It was kinda weird/fun/scary...but a good time...the girls loved that I did it and made me go first! Then after we had all gone, it was time to shop! I've never been in a mall like this before..there were people EVERYWHERE...always touching and pushing you. The shops were absolutely tiny...as were the clothes :) We went up like 3 floors and looked for bags. I saw some really cute ones...then I decided on this cute white and red "Rainbow" bag. So then we met the rest of the students with Fabie downstairs and we headed back to the hotel. We walked through this one market that resembled the ladies market (it was the ladies market...but I didn't figure that out until about our last day or 2 in Hong Kong...hehe). We looked at all sorts of fun stuff(including lots of gross stuff at the fish market). They were selling these cute flip-flops so the kids helped me pick some out...I had to get like the biggest size :) Then we bought some coconuts and drank out of them...it was good...but I wouldn't get it all the time. Then we caught a cab back (which we so didn't have to do)...said g'nite to the kids and went out to dinner with the team.

** July 14, 2003 ~ My "best" day~**

Well...today ended up being the best day by a long shot so far! I was not very confident at all that my students liked me at all...so I decided to worry about the ones who did pursue me...I got to school and right off the bat Carey and Queenie came up with a gift for me! They got me these big silver hoops and this totally HK shirt with an Ape of some sort on it...I love it and I was SO touched that they gave it to me!! Then Jeaniy told me she couldn't go to dinner with me (confirming that none of the students in my class like me...hehe). So we started class with the Kinder Surprises and at first they didn't do them...but once they all saw Anthony and Timothy doing it they started up real quick! So I tried doing my lesson for awhile...but the kids really hate their books...and I don't blame them...they are way too advanced for that material...so that bombed! So we did games (educational of course) and I gave out prizes and they loved that! When I had to move Anthony to the front (my desk) things started to go better. Suddenly it was like the clouds opened up and God decided to POUR his blessings on me! Jeaniy loved me and wanted to marry me! My kids all wanted to be around me...wanted my attention...suddenly even Timothey liked me! It was so crazy I can't even explain it...he was helping me do things (including control the class). So during recess they were all just having fun with me and together and I arm wrestled and beat Anthony...hehe :) Timothy even let me put flowers in his hair and take a picture. I was so happy and so sad all at the same time...knowing that my time with these students is almost up...just as I feel I'm sorta getting to know the students...so frustrating...:(

**July 15, 2003~ The Haircut I will NEVER forget!! **

~I was just walking around the city while they developed my pictures...to give you some back ground...~
I was still trying to waste time so I wandered on some more and I decided to get my hair cut! I had more than an hour so I thought I'd be fine on time before devotions. But I know better now!! After decideing what to do with my hair they asked me if I wanted to wash my hair first...I thought "of course...I've been sweaty and I might as well!" But they massage your head for like 1/2 an hour...then the guy cut my hair like I've never had done before. He was more than a hair dresser...he was an ARTIST! He was so picky and careful...and I don't think he had ever cut white people hair before...so that was funny. But like while he's blow drying it (layer by layer of course) I start realizing I'm going to be late! So on my way back (by the way my hair looks hot...even if this is the last time it'll look this good) I picked up my pictures and headed back to the hotel. I walk in late and they're like "You're Alive!" and then "Your hair looks awesome!" So I go through the whole story and they're like "eh...no worries"
*whew...that was a close one*

**July 16, 2003~ The last day of class with the form 1 students! So sad!**

Well, today was good, but sad in a lot of ways. I am very excited to have won over my 1A students...but my other students are all so great! Today Peony, Mandy & Iris gave me this chinese ink and paper set...it was so great! I just basically hung out with my students today and had them sign my book. I'm going to miss them all so much! Today when we did rotations I hardly had any trouble with any of the classes. Tommy helped me out in Stephanie's class...he's so cute...! I am already so sad to leave my students...even though we're not leaving yet...the knowledge that this whole scene, picture, experience  will take on that hazy dream-like state of memory already makes me sad. It's another beautiful night out here in my spot on the front steps of the YWCA...writing in my journal under a full moon. It hardly seems real now...just think of what it will feel/seem like two months from now!

**July 18, 2003 ~ One special incident during the excursion to The Peak~ **

...Oh, I forgot the thing that made me so happy today. Before I went into the statue place (wax museum) Wing took a hold of my arm from the back like I always see them do with each other! I've always wondered at the level of physical touch between people of the same sex here...but then I started to envy it because it's so intimate...but as a teacher I cannot do it with any of my studetns! And they are only like that with the people they are comfortable with and around...so when Wing took my arm it made me feel so special and totally accepted by them!

**July 20, 2003 ~ The Crazy Man In The ISUZU!!~ **

...On the way back I got to the hotel and this crazy dude in in an Isuzu had knocked over (or rather plowed over) all of the barriers in front of the hotel. I just went upstairs to get ready before Queenie got here. Erin came in and she was talking about the accident and how she had seen the guy ram over a pole earlier and the pole had hit someone. So now she has to talk to the police here in Hong Kong! Crazy! :)
