I define diverse literature as something that isn't written by dead white men. Diversity also includes anything about religion, race, gender, and different ways of life. Also, anything about someone who is in a minority, or someone who fought great odds to be recognized.
Recently I have read The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman, The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingslover, Nectar In A Sieve by Kamala Markandays, and I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelo. One of my favorite books is Night by Elie Wiesel.
I did a presentation for the MEA on diversity in literature on three authors, Elie Wiesel, Anne
Bradstreet, and Sojurner Truth. I hope this gives you a better idea of what I'm looking for. You should definitely check out any of these books that you haven't read. They are absolutly wonderful.
