Classroom Management Statement

In order to have a productive and effective classroom, it is necessary to have set guidelines that can be easily followed by each person in the classroom.  The idea of Assertive Discipline, the theory put forth by Lee Canter.  This idea simply suggests that all classroom rules be visible to students and enforced by the teacher in order to have an effective learning environment.
     Three simple guidelines are the
Three Ps- Be prompt, be prepared, and be polite. Within these guidelines fall every common classroom rule, from Dont be tardy, to Have homework done on time, to Treat others as you would like to be treated.  The Three Ps, however, are clear to students, and are a positive reminder of their responsibilities in class.  Positive reinforcement can be used to enforce these guidelines.  Teachers understand that they must lead by example, and show their students the same respect that they receive from their students.
The Boy's Town Training Model is an exciting and proactive way for students to show responsibility in the classroom.  Each student is responsible for their own actions.  Because students, especially those in the secondary 7-12 grades, want to be treated as the adults they are trying to become, they must be allowed to be completely responsible for their work and behavior.  It is simply their choice whether their decisions have positive or negative consequences.  By taking responsibility, the students have learned important life skills that will be valuable throughout their lives.
While it is the students responsibility to learn class material, it is likewise the teachers responsibility to present that material in interesting and innovative ways that will enhance the learning experience.  By utilizing technology, such as interactive Internet sites, along with traditional learning tools, it is possible to create a unique and multi-dimensional learning environment in which everyone is confidant.
