THE POWER OF GIVING
Your Ability to Love!
In each one of us is a spring of love which can make this world a better place to live in. Our ability to love comes from God who is love Himself. Scripture says, "No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and His love is made complete in us." No one is perfect, that is true. But if we love one another, God's love is not only made complete in us; we also become a channel of His love.
The greatest expression of being a channel of God's love is the act of generous giving. We all give, one way or another, for many reasons. One of these is, we give to dispose of something such as clothes, trinkets or anything which are not already useful to us, so we get rid of them. Another reason is, we give to get something in return. This "return" may not be material. It may be "popularity", "attention", "praise", "acceptance in a group", or "promotion". Conditional and disposal giving are acts of "mere giving",and not "generous giving".
Generous giving comes from the heart, with the pure and sincere intention of helping those in need regardless of race, of color, of religion, and of status in life. It is true and genuine and not merely a facade or show. The generous giver gives freely, without prejudice and without reluctance.
If we look and listen intently around us, we will realize that everybody, young and old alike, is in need. Everybody is in need of love, in need of understanding, in need of acceptance, praise, and appreciation.
In spite of modern technology which makes life convenient, we still cannot deny the fact that all people long to be loved. Money, wealth, success, and technology can make you happy and satisfied for a time being; but they can never fill that longing in each of us.
We humans, imperfect as we are, have been given the greatest opportunity to be channels of God's gift called LOVE, and the act of generous giving is its greatest expression.
