James Naismith, born in Ontario, invented the game in 1891, when he was a phys. ed. teacher in Massachusetts, U.S.A.

Norman Breakey of Toronto invented the paint roller in 1940.

Jack Hopps, born in Winnipeg, developed the world's first cardiac (heart) pacemaker in Ontario in 1950.

Alexander Graham Bell was born in Scotland but emigrated to Canada with his parents. He made the first telephone call in Brantford, Ontario, in 1876.

Reginald Fessenden, born in Quebec, sent the first wireless voice message in the world on Dec. 23, 1900.  Fessenden sent out his radio signals in continuous waves, which he named "amplitude modulation" (AM). In 1906, he made the first public radio broadcast.

Olivia Poole of Vancouver invented this baby exerciser in 1954.

Gideon Sundback, a Swedish immigrant, who lived in St. Catharines, Ontario, patented his "separable fastener" in 1913.
Joe Shuster was born in Toronto but his family moved to the U.S. when he was 10. He created Superman (with Jerome Siegel) in 1933.

Sir Sandford Fleming was the chief engineer in charge of developing Canada's national railway system. In 1878, he proposed a worldwide standard time system of 24 time zones. It was adopted in 1884.
