| Exciting as coming to medical school can be, we all remember how overwhelming it can seem at first. The school will place you into a peer group consiting of 20-25 fellow first year students led by a second year peer advisor. Your peer advisor (or any peer advisor for that matter) will be an excellent resource for many of your questions. To further assist with your transition into medical school, many second year students volunteer to be a "Big Sib" to one or two first year students. By signing up for a Big Sib, you get yet another perspective about medical school; some Big Sibs in the past have even helped out first year students by loaning books or supplies, or at least been a source for some much needed motivation & support when exam week rolls around. We'll do our best to match you with a second year student who has a background or family situation similar to your own. To sign up for a Big Sib, please e-mail [email protected] or write: UTHSCSA Office of Student Life ATTN: Class of 2005 Big Sibs 7703 Floyd Curl Dr. San Antonio, TX 78229-3900 PLEASE INCLUDE IN YOUR CORRESPONDENCE (so we can better match you): Your Name Sex Marital Status How many children if any & age ranges Undergraduate/previous Graduate Institution & degree(s) received Previous work experience (military, teaching, etc.) Name of second year student you request as a Big Sib, if known. We will post the final list of Big Sib matches to this web site shortly before orientation week, in case you originally opt not to sign up and then change your mind as orientation week begins. Questions? If you have any other questions prior to being contacted by your peer advisor or would like to follow a student for a day before our first year ends, please contact one of the current Class of 2005 Officers at the links below: Hilton Gottschalk, Pres.
