Bishop Grimes Physical Education Grading Policy:

Grades will be issued for each six week marking period as…

§        E (Excellent)

§        S (Satisfactory)

§        N (Needs Improvement)

§        U (Unsatisfactory/failing)

The final grade given at the end of the year will be the average of the six marking periods based on the numeric transformation below:

§        E   =  (3)

§        S   =  (2)

§        N   =  (1)

§        U   =  (0)

Final Grade Example:

 Marking Period

1        2        3        4        5        6

E       E       S       E       E       S

3    +  3    +  2    +  3    +  3    +  2   = 16 (total for the year)

16 (total for the year) / 6 (total amount of marking periods) =

2.67 (average for the year)

If the average for the year is…   Less than 1.0         = U

                                                1.0 – 1.5                = N

                                                1.6 – 2.7                = S ßFinal Grade

                                                2.8 – 3                   = E

Also, if you earn a U grade for more then one marking period, you are considered to be failing the course for the year.  It would then be your responsibility to speak with your teacher about how you can improve your grade to a passing one.

You determine your grade by the choices you make regarding your participation in Physical Education class.

*** Keep in mind that you need four years of high school Physical Education in order to meet graduation requirements in New York State. ***
