Mapping Our Community |

First we began by pin pointing where we lived on a city map. We also discussed landmarks in our community.
Together we designed a map of our school to discuss our immediate community and connected it to our health (fire safety). We discussed legends and symbols as well. We also mapped our classroom. (2004) |

We dicussed the 5 basic human needs and then made a chart dicplaying how we meet those needs. We then went on to discuss human wants: to learn, to be loved, fun. From this chart we formed a web that shows how people in the community help us meet our needs and wants. (photo from 2003) |

In our Connecting With Others Unit, we learned about the important roles people have within our school. We interviewed many of the people at Parkdale and then wrote reports. Our reports included why they were important, their responsiblities and how they felt about their job. |
