Wild Canada Summative

Odeysseus was drawn to the wild island to the Sirens by their beautiful singing. Others had gone there before him, only to be thrown upon the treacherous rocks and killed. Odeysseus, however, wanted to hear the beauty of the Siren Song, and ordered his men to tie him to the masthead so he could not drown.

Today, the Canadian Wilderness calls out to hundreds of thousands of tourists each year. They, like Odeysseus are drawn to the adventure and excitement of the wild, but also are able to enjoy their adventures in relative safety.

Your summative assignment is to plan a two-week vacation in the Ontario wilderness. The project will take the form of a two-week scrapbook, as if an entry had been made each day. You may choose any type of wilderness activity…like backpacking, mountain-biking, kayaking…or even something relatively quiet like walking, cycling, or bird-watching. You may also devise an extreme-sport adventure, or eco-tour. Your trip can take place in any season. You should start your journey from your own home, and explain how you travelled… was it direct route?... partial orbit?... or full-orbit?  What gear did you take with your? How did you carry and preserve your food? Remember, it is the wilderness, and there may be scavengers looking to steal your food! The more realistic you make your trip, the better. Who knows…. You may even be able to take your trip for real this summer!
